Removing side trims

Hello all....

Fingers crossed, i may be back working again soon and hopefully my life can return to a degree of normality  :)

A quick question for you all.....

A while back i bought some of the chrome trim tape recommended by Russ. I want to get this job done but being so cold and wanting to do a controlled very neat job, ive decided the best thing to do is to remove each side moulding and work on it on the table in the house.

My concern is if i yank them off its going to bust the clips....does anyone have any tips or insight on the best way to remove and refit without damage please ;)

Thankyou :P

Hi Vince

Good news on the job, my fingers are crossed for you!
Side trims, remove the door card and undo the star bolts from inside the door, trims drop off, fairly involved but time consuming rather than difficult, the small front wing trim securing bolts can be accessed behind the wheel arch liner.

As a man who has been ferreting around inside doors (and failing to fix regulators, grrrrr) I can confirm that Dean is absolutely correct (just in case anyone was thinking he wasn't ;) )

Dean has been incorrect a fair bit of late, memory isn't what it was I'm afraid, which isn't a great sign considering I'm still only 24 ;)

Tell me about it! At 49 not only is it hard to remember what you are doing and why you are stood in a particular place (according to a good friend a CRAFT moment, Can't Remember A F$*!@g Thing) but also when you do remember your eyesight is too poor to see anything or read the text!!!

Now having to wear my glasses under the welding mask!!!!

'When people annoy you, tell them they need to Focus'
'Focus?'
'Yes FOCUS - F*** Off 'Cause Ur Stupid'

On the door trims Vince? ... Under the handle, remove the surround to the door release, and under the window switches. I have a feeling there is another, but can't remember. Remove the stopper....Then it's the dreaded tabs. Trim tools or a screwdriver wrapped in masking tape works well. Good luck, I have done it a few times now and it gets easier everytime.

In my experience it is sometimes possible to remove the door side mouldings after removing just the rear fixing, Vince, ie. without stripping the cards. If you take off the rubber plug, carefully loosen and extract the screw and plastic washer inside and carefully lift and pull back on the end of the moulding you may be lucky! With regards, Matthew T.

As Russ says, there are two screws, remove the lock button then prize the bottom of the door card away from the door, then get hold of the door handle and tug upwards as the card hooks over the window reveal?, this leaves most of the plastic plugs in situe, you can then warm the rest and extract them without the door card in the way.
