XM Premiere Catalytic Exhaust

Hi All,
Been a while since I was last on here but hoping some guru can advise on where best to get a new front exhaust section with Catalytic convertor for a XM Premiere hatchback M reg (registered Aug 94) 2 litre petrol turbo model.

The front section is starting to go where it joins onto the middle box, from there through to the rear pipe is all good as that bit was replaced a few years ago but the front section hasn't be touched in the 11 yrs since I've had the car so probably a miracle its survived this long. Problem is my local exhaust fitters can't get a part number from the registration and looking online myself it seems the XM exhaust system variant changed in 94 from a Y3 to Y4, I suspect mine falls into Y4 but I'm not certain? Is there anyway to confirm this, have tried checking the VIN online but a couple of sites say the 10th digit (0) is wrong even though that's what's on the engine plate & log book? Any ideas please?

Thanks
Peter

Hi

The cat design didn't change at all through the whole production run of tct's so all the system is the same bar where the exhaust joints are positioned and the length of the tail pipe coming out of the back box is longer on the estate version.

These cheaper ones will do the job although they have a much lower surface area and will give higher emmision outputs than the originals which should not be an issue on a well maintained engine but their life span is short.

You can go for the better ones like this but you will pay a lot more as you can see

Then there is a third option which is buy a good oe cat from an accident damaged car and make up the part you want, cheaper than the high quality one at a fraction of the price with the same result, the choice is yours

Hi Peter,
As I recall the Premiere is a Series One or Y3 model produced around 1992 prior to introduction of the 2.0i turbo, therefore I am a bit mystified by yours being registered in 1994 and a turbo! Whatever engine you have it should not be a problem to find exhaust parts and I suggest RSJ Auto Factors on this link:

Please let us know how you get on.
With regards,
Matthew T.

The VIN should have a Y3 or Y4 in it to give you a hint. If you post the VIN number here, I am sure that someone will be able to decode it for you.

Hi Guys,
Many thanks all for your replies, appreciate it. The VIN number is VF 7Y34AX0000AX6270. Since my post I checked Ebay and BM had this exhaust which I thought might do?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BM-Catalysts- ... 4d116f3cfe" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; but they say the Y3 is for an estate and the Y4 a hatchback? I will put a photo of my car on my profile so you can see what my XM looks like, I bought it in 2004 intending it as a short term run around while preparing my Landy to go to Africa but liked it so much (electrics apart) that I ended up keeping it.
Cheers
Peter

The only difference between estate and hatchback exhausts is the length of the tailpipe, the estate being longer.

Y3 and Y4 aren't any different afaik.

I have just discovered that a 'Premiere' model was also offered in 1993/4 at the run off of the S1 that I did not appreciate, which did indeed also have the 2.0i turbo engine. I guess the car was 'i' level spec like the earlier model, since the 'Onyx' was 'si' and the 'Prestige' was 'sei'. Here is a link to a ebay brochure that I have in my collection: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Citroen-XM-Pr ... 1627724729" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I hope you manage to get the exhaust part you need.
