Insurance
For those with more than one car and especially for those with quite a few, do you have a separate policy for each car or do you lump them all together on one policy? Is there any advantage to doing either? Does any one use a trade policy and what are the pros and cons?
I'm just mulling it through at the moment as to which is the best for me. Just after opinions.

Re: Insurance
I think a trade policy means you do prehaps have to sell and buy a car once in a while but im not positive on that..
A trade policy however is handy for multi car.. and you can remove and add as many as you like.. however it is also useually a little more expensive then a private car policy.
Insuring a second car on a second policy is out right redicilous for cost! Found it impossible. I did get round my private car and classic car with a classic policy. The 24v is 17 quid a month. However it doesnt accumilate and ncb each year.
Im currently trying to get round having seperate insurances for private and classic to try reduce my costs but im currently failing.. 24v may need to rest off the road once again untill things improve..

Re: Insurance
I learnt something that I didn't know about, admiral insurance... If you want to take the risk, do both classic and normal insurance. Not sure if they do a multi car with both or not. Probably not. Worth investigating however.
I have my insurance up for renewal next week. Hope I get it before the new tax increase on car insurance is added.

Re: Insurance
Trade policies are only Road Risks and don't cover ones own vehicle.
I have four cars on a multicar policy and find it's Ok. I was with Admiral, but now Aviva.

Re: Insurance
Trade polices MOST CERTAINLY do cover own cars now! I spoke to one just yesterday!
The deposit and current car cancelation fee prevented me further. What you loose is cover to drive other cars 3rd party..

Re: Insurance
I looked at Trade policies a few years ago.
One clause present in all I checked out ruled them out for me.
They reserved the right to check on your trading accounts prior to settling any claim.

Re: Insurance
I've got my XM (and 2CV) on classic cover. The policy also covers my 'modern' 2001 Perodua. All have full EU breakdown cover and unlimited mileage. Classics have agreed value, modern builds up no claims discount. I use Peter James, who have a strict 20-year limit on classics - I had the XM covered as a modern until it turned 20 earlier this year.

Thanks for the input, fellas. The trade route isn't necessarily the right one for me as the cheapness of it up front doesn't make up for the hassle if anything goes wrong.
Coincidentally there is a thread on FCF in a similar vein which suggests finding a bloody good broker to see what he could come up with. With four cars at present, madam wanting a soft top and me wanting to add, the thought of £1200 - £1500 in insurance premiums every year makes the old Yorkshire heart miss a beat or two.
I have two cars with Adrian Flux at the moment, may give them a ring during the week to see how the land would lie.

Re: Insurance
I originally had a private and a classic... Classic policy while cheap at 17 quid a month for the 24v didnt build a ncd with them..
I switched to a trade as said above... Expensive it is... But any car can come and go. However my classic policy is still running.
