This afternoon I had a phone call from Liz, Jaap's wife, with some very very sad news indeed. Jaap passed away in his sleep last night.
Of course this is a total shock and completely unexpected. I cant quite believe it myself. We had become really good friends since meeting at the ICCCR in 2012.
My thoughts, and condolences are with Liz and Jaap's family.

His contributions, his fun character and humour on the forum and in real life, will be greatly missed.

Liz wanted me to let you all know the sad news.

A really sad piece of news, Russ. Jaap always had good things to say, and in a humourous and gentlemanly way.

Gosh Russ that is hugely shocking news and I am so very sorry for Liz. I only met Jaap the once I think also at ICCCR and he seemed to be a lovely guy. Of course Jaap was a regular on the Forum and was posting only a couple of days ago and his contributions will be very much missed. Please pass on our warmest and most sincere condolences to Liz. That is bad news. I met Jaap and Liz a couple of times and they were really nice people. Please pass my condolences on to Liz, She must be having a difficult time at the moment.

I was speaking to Liz his wife earlier, and I am shocked by this news.

I first met Jaap and Liz in person at the ICCCR and they have been good friends since. He will be sadly missed. My thoughts are with Liz, and poor Jaap.
