Post by MTXM » Wed Oct 26, 2016 11:12 am

Just checked the website details and it appears there are currently just three 12v and three 24v on the road and I have one of each! Another 31 and 9 of each model respectively on sorn that with mine makes another 36 examples!! Regards, Matthew T.

Those on-road numbers are miniscule - just six S1 V6. Good grief.
You're not far off cornering the market, and having the casting vote.

Talking of DVLA searches, I put in a few registration numbers of cars I used to run, just to see whether they were still lurking anywhere. If you input reg no and make, the site comes back with year, cc, hp, body style, colour, etc. as well as MoT or not.
https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk

Was interesting to find full details for TJT180L and JGH152N (both Rover P6), but not UUX414 (1960 Rover 3L), or 105WMM (a '59 Mini).
Biggest surprise, though, was to find a complete entry for BKP438 (also Rover) . . . try it, and look at the correctly listed Year!

I take it a formal notice of scrappage (or re-use) deletes an entry?

Wow, that's not many at all.

Hopefully most of those on sorn have been put away for winter, but as you know Matthew, there are two lurking in here in Churchdown with broken gearboxes.

Some of the cars may be treasured examples carefully stored away Russ although, from what you have said and how very few are seen at CCC events, I fear most are defective and unlikely to returned to the road! The car I have just broken and Paul's 12v are just two we know recently perished that also may not be in the current figures. With regards, Matthew T.

Pauls will be reincarnated though Matthew, a new 3.0 12v will be appearing on the road within the next 6-12 months.
Low numbers of XM are a good thing in my view, values have to rise to ensure their survival and the less there are the more the will be worth.

I expect they are all faulty in one way or another. I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn if there are more, but just not recorded. Sorned before Sorn came in. Who knows!

I'm intrigued what your going to do with the YOG shell Dean. Plot thickens! ;)

It is good that Paul's cars will live on as with others I have broken over the years Dean and your's will obviously make an interesting addition alongside other imported XM.
The only problem with low numbers could be that the cars are not on most people's radar and that could possibly decrease the value - who is going to rush to buy something they did not know existed!

I am sure there are a few others out there Russ and the website does not seem to be 100% reliable. My understanding is that Dean has only acquired the shell of YOG to strip off the front sub-frame, anti-roll bars, wiring and other V6 specific parts but I might be wrong!

I'm not sure that an actual SORN declaration matters here, as all cars are registered, so must either be taxed or SORN. The only ones that won't be counted is unregistered cars where the registration document has been rescindered due to being scrapped, as my Cobalt car was.

Of course. Not as simple as just plugging in a V6.

This makes my XM V6 12v the rarest car I have owned! Can't believe one of the 3 taxed examples left. Interesting info Matthew, do we know who has the 3rd taxed 12v? Apologies if that's obvious in the preceding posts!
