If I'd behaved like that when I got my first XM, I wouldn't be married.

I saw that on Youtube about 10 years ago, but then it disappeared for a long time for some reason.
Nice to see it reinstated.

As for Will's comment, absolutely agree, who actually gets on like that?!

Mmmm, the lifestyle marketing Wa*k is strong with this one. If ANYONE had been seen doing this with their new car they would of been sectioned instantly, and rightly so.

Sorry, Chris, I have an uncontrollable hatred of marketing bs, it just boils my blood.

Jewellers are really getting my back up lately this week, I don't know why but this sort of thing-

"Thinking of asking that special someone to marry you? bought her some expensive shiny? well unless you bought your expensive shiny* from us, handcrafted by our team of loyal and devoted shiny smithing wonder elves** who will guarantee you get whatever you want from this point on*** you pretty much don't stand a chance, your life will be a catalogue of failures from this point on and not even your dog will be able to love you***.
*expense guaranteed, shininess may vary
**elf shiny smith hand made products only available in certain stores, we reserve the right not to use elves but market our product under the 'handmade by elves' trade name
***no guarantees are made by us, results may vary, we do not claim to influence life changing decisions made by loved ones, family members, future spouses, or beloved family pets.

Just annoys the hell out of me, and the Citroen advert above is up there with some of the biggest steaming piles of marketing bull droppings I've ever had the misfortune to be exposed to, I mean, they are saying that if you buy the new Citroen XM, it will be so amazing, so jaw-droppingly gorgeous, your whole life will stop, you will no longer care about anything other than stroking and looking at your new car, your partner will be drawn in too and you will just roam the country together smiling for no reason and hugging your car in abstract locations. it almost makes me physically sick watching that.

what concerns me though is that this actually works, we all know its utter rubbish and yet if exposed for long enough to this kind of drivel you do end up wanting one..............go figure.

This crass video has obviously sparked some strong reactions, and the reason for my reposting it was simply because I was surprised that Citroen had produced such a thing, especially in 1995. It's possible, of course, that it was a tongue-in-cheek exercise, but I'm not convinced. Historically, it just seems to have escaped from an earlier decade.

There are, IMHO, many much more worryingly misleading items of mass advertising than this, which currently abound: price comparison websites, the smart-meter campaign, hybrid cars . . . to name just a few. Much more subtle brainwashing.

You don't fancy the world knowing you as a mechafile, then Dean?

Just waxing the paintwork... ;) ;)
