I had to supply some proof it wasn't my car.
If you do not mind me asking Russ, I wondered what you said, apart from highlighting the peeling lacquer on the clone! Perhaps you sent photos of the car in your garage with a missing engine!! With regards, Matthew T.

In addition to the purpose suggested by Dean cloning has also been used by criminal gangs and terrorists for travel, avoiding surveillance by detectives.
I know an english lass working in Dublin with her english registered car had a visit from detectives asking if she had been in Co Louth which borders Northern Ireland. Of course she had not
and the detectives suspected it was a clone car that had been seen acting suspiciously. Her car was never on the internet which made it a really spookey experience.

A few years ago, someone stole the back plate from one of my cars, I suspect that they were after both, but were thwarted because I had parked the front of the car against a rose bush! The UK police did not want to know, tried to convince me that it had just fallen off, but I could produce the screws and plastic caps that the thieves had left sitting on the ground behind the car. Fortunately nothing more was heard.

I too was thinking about this... how would you prove it isn't your car?

I sent photos of the car that was caught on the fine notification. I have full colour pics of it.
Then sent a pic of my car in colour and also a PDF of the V5C where it states colour of vehicle.

They could if they really wanted to check all the ferry ports passenger lists to see if I had driven over there.

I doubt much will come of this. But it is a bit alarming.

I had both stolen from the BX while it was stored at my mechanic (already in the period when I didn't use it any more). The plates were used in a burglary from a larger hardware shop but not on a BX, on a Peugeot, it was caught on the security camera. I was interrogated as a witness but as I could provide the previous police protocols of reporting it stolen, it was a simple process.
