Citroen recognition of the XM!!

Post by MTXM » Wed Apr 18, 2018 1:58 pm

I spotted this in a brochure my wife picked up for the current C3 and it was gratifying to see Citroen acknowledging past models, with particular recognition for the XM! Regards, Matthew T.

Gosh! What a surprise, even if only in the small print.
Odd to see AX, BX and CX laid out as 'a series', which really ought to read the other way round. They probably forgot that.

Looks as if they were slightly ashamed of the XM, since they did not picture it. And the one they should be proudest of, in my humble and biased opinion, is the SM, which they have ignored completely.

XM likely left out in case anyone wondered what happened to cars of that quality and distinctiveness...or made unwanted comparison with some of the newer stuff.

Brings back memories of a Rover dealer showroom in Surrey that, in an effort to sell the new 825i, put one of them in the window, next to an old but splendid P6B 3500, under the slogan "Remember this? - And never mind what came in between...". After a few days, the display suddenly disappeared; it was thought that someone from HQ had had a word.

What came in between was, of course, SD1, which had earned something of a reputation for itself in its early days.

I Partially agree with you on the SM but arguably the motoring world would crown the DS as Citroen's finest moment and one of the greatest car designs of all time..............And Citroen put up a picture of a Mehari
Surely if they were drawing on great historical triumphs the brand then the DS should definitely be there along with the 2CV, the SM and i would say the BX.

For starters the BX didn't really have any nasty vices, it was jointly at the forefront of making diesel power acceptable to the masses and it sold twice as many units than the CX in nearly half the time.
