Off topic chat about anything you like. Doesn't have to be about XMs (though they will inevitibly come up!). You can even discuss non-Citroens :o in here!

What constitutes a Series 1.5?

Post by motorgnome » Mon Oct 22, 2018 11:24 am

As the subject line asks..What are the differences that makes up a series 1.5?

Also, on my MK1, the exterior door mirrors & the lower windscreen trim (plenum chamber cover?) are plain grey (I just spent 1.5 hours polishing them!),.
I notice on some vehicles, these are body coloured. Was this a change made by Citroen, or did some people just get smart & painted them to ease maintenance. I kind of like the grey "waistband".

Cheers Guys.

There is no official designation of a series 1.5. IMHO, to use such designations is wrong as there were numerous changes at different times.

XM built until mid 1992 had grey exterior plastics, apart from the V6-24 which were painted. In 1992 the exterior plastics changed to black and the interior ones went from black to hurricane grey, as well as other interior colour shade changes.
SE also versions gained the painted exterior plastics.

The inner wing earthing points went from multipole ones, to ring fittings.

The Rp number denotes what parts are fitted to what car.

My personal preference are early cars with grey exterior plastics and single spoke steering wheel and multipole earthing. This gives the space age look the design was meant to be.

Thank you sir! That explains things perfectly.
"Space age look" it certainly is... Mine came off the ramps for the first time in a while & looking at it parked outside of my workshop all day was a pleasure. I know I'm "preaching to the converted" but I just Luuurrrvvve the looks of the XM. My goodness they are a wide car too!
