That is Will (Dieselman)'s 'Farm Find' S1 V624v Chris and an impressive 'work in progress' given the earlier condition and I am surprised he has not acknowledged ownership!! With regards, Matthew T.

What is the deal with the blue XM with CX type bonnet vent/intake?

That's a friends, ....Darren isn't on here. He likes to modify his cars. I believe he welded the CX bonnet scoop on it because of engine heat. The V6 gets quite hot under the bonnet in an XM. He also sometimes tows a caravan hence the xtra cooling.
I think he said that's a Renault blue.
The bonnet vent is purely decorative as there is no ducting undeneath it. Darren wanted it to appear similar to a CX.
A vent positioned so far back is in the high pressure area in front of the windscreen. It will either cause the underbonnet air to stagnate, or flow in reverse,... either way, reducing cooling airflow.

The wind deflectors look quite good though, possibly practical too.

Many thanks for your comments on the photos chaps and it was really great to meet so many XM enthusiasts at the event! I shall try and remember where I sourced the gearbox link ball for Paul that I believe happened to be a spare I had lying around. With regards, Matthew T.

Thanks - I wonder if it makes much difference... The vent is not all that large and I thought it was air intake on CX? But I do like the look of it.

I think he told me it was just to try and vent off engine heat whilst staionary rather than actual ducted cooling. But who knows, you know what Darren is like. Probably is all about the looks!

It's on the road.. excellent news! So the question is, is the mandarin going black or is the black going mandarin..... ;)

I think it is staying black Russ on account of the engine bay, although I think Will would prefer Mandarin! The restoration certainly looked impressive and apart from the paint there is just the engine to polish! With regards, Matthew T.

As Matthew alludes to, that is the six million dollar question.
