Recommendations for a free hosting site.. Or a program that can easily resize pictures to the 2mb max file size for upload..

I've started a blog on a gearbox swap I did this last year however most pictures are very annoyingly to oooooo big to upload directly.. Sort of putting me into a really can't be bothered dooing the blog..

So what do you do.. Obviously I have to try and remember to make the pictures of a much lower quality to bring the size down.. But that's not always remembered...

Host on imgur.

As with any file-sharing site...keep your own copy.

We've talked about external picture/file hosting sites several times before.
Not a good way to go, so far as our Forum is concerned, because when the hosting site disappears/is abandoned/falls out of favour/starts charging/etc, the photos which were once in in the posts just disappear. Remember the Photobucket fiasco?

Far better is to have them automatically (Ciaran?) resized, or do that yourself (simple in Paint, for example).
Don't ask me what our max photo file attachment size is . . . I can't remember, nor is this info easily to hand iirc.

For completeness and archival sake, let's not go 'external hosting' again, but just get things sorted and simple on our own site.

I agree that it would be better to adjust the forum configuration so that .jpg images are automatically re-sized when they are uploaded.

Current file size is around 2mb.. Most of my phone pics are 8mb and no doubt most phone pics will be. As I said in my original post its not always easy to remember to change size when taking pics along the way..

I agree about external hosting.. But to repeat find the file limit size limiting..

Paint is a no go also as I now do 98% of my stuff on my phone. Suppose I could use the phones in built editer cropper software but you then have 2x of everything..

Prehaps my current I. T lazy Ness is getting the better of me and I'm edging to close toward s I can't be entirely bothered.. Recording progress is all good though..

It is only a few clicks to reconfigure the phpBB forum so that files over a threshold size are re-compressed during the upload process. Try uploading one of you files to FCF and see if it works for you.

Hi guys,

The resizing thing / images over HTTPS I've been working on...with the help of Xantia_v6 of course, although its actually last November since I last got doing anything with it, unfortunately a lots been going on. I hope to get some time off over Christmas and sort out a lot of the site properly.

Regarding the image resize settings, will try and look at this now.

Hi guys,

Max file size has been upped to 10MB.
Mike, maybe I'm being really stupid, but could you possibly point me in the direction of the recompression setting you mentioned? I can't find anything for it besides the in-line resizing, which isn't compression.

Cheers

Ciarán
