We will be fitting new HT leads to see if that cures it, but in best old car fashion, the brake pad warning light has come on, despite brand new front pads and 500 mile old rear ones.

However, my XM ABS issues have been sorted so that is definitely on.
I would be surprised if ignition leads caused your symptoms. More likely the ignition coil, or perhaps distributor rotor or ignition amplifier (if fitted), or the engine temperature sensor for the injection.

BTW, I had a d-jet that was over-fuelling and surging that turned out to have a split diaphragm in the manifold pressure sensor (or LDVT as think it is called on a d-jet).

The HT leads are renowned on the SM, another owner resolved similar issues this way. Mine are in very poor nick anyway, so for a few quid we can see if it makes a difference.

If this doesn't fix it, I am going to get the car converted to modern ecu driven injection, with electronic ignition. That will sort most issues out without this constant drip feed of money fiddling and poor performance.

Sad to report that I won't now be able to make it to this fantastic weekend. :( :( :(

Our laptop just died and needs replaced. The BX GTi now needs a complete new exhaust system. Sadly that means that CXM has to take a back seat and I cannot tell you how gutted I am. I enjoyed last year so much and I didn't even have an XM then. Been scheming for a couple of days, thinking of a way to make it happen, but it is not to be.

Paul and Russ I will PM you about the bits/stickers as I'll need them posted now.

Such is my zeal to attend, I called in to Halfords to get some black T cut polish to spend a day or so getting the car prepped. However, I managed to twist my ankle on a mild indentation, and ended up falling on my left knee, the only part of me without considerable cushioning. I am hobbling about a bit, so I might not be able to survive two whole days, so will probably pop in on Sunday when hopefully I am a bit more mobile. The car will therefore not be close to concours, but much more so than its owner!

I managed to do a similar thing last year stacking logs, and the worrying thing is that alcohol was involved in neither case!

It does look like there's a chance of rain for Friday (20% chance), but touch wood it looks like there won't be rain on Sat and Sun - just quite humid although cloudy...

We can but hope... :)

Created the "donation pot" today (donations gratefully received to cover our field cost) - you'll have to wait until Friday to see it, but it's not just any ol' tin... ;)
