Hi All..

Great to see you all, who I did meet with!

It was a pleasure to offer any tips or advice and Lexia Help I gave!

Thought not 100 per cent perfect, in fact far from it, I was still pleased to offer rides to people..

I left this morning, and arrived home to a MASSIVE cloud of smoke from under the bonnet, upon opening the bonnet I found the Pump main pressure feed pipe, the metal one, has split or something, and had poured most of the LHM all over the rear exhaust manifold!!

Ive got home parked her up, but not had tme to investigate, as it started raining soon after getting home and not stopped!!

Id have a thought that those who drove or came out in her would NOT have been disapointed with her "Verbal" note..... I real Racing Car in disguise!

I WILL get her up to scratch for next year! Ive got 12 months to do it now!

that was lucky you managed to get back Paul, i know how much mess that has made of the engine bay as ive just had that problem, all over the exhaust too, its a rather impressive cloud of smoke isnt it

Least it got home and expired over the finishing line as per Colin Chapman's expectations at
Lotus rather than a long way before or worse on the way to the meeting Paul!
Was this the only sighting of a s1 24v then?

Burning LHM on a manifold is evil. Sounds like high pressure feed but volume from the low pressure c
an make a quick mess.

She was the only 24v S1, and almost the ONLY V6 untill Mathew homas turned up with his 12v Auto in the same colour..

Yes it was the high press feed pipe right at the pump, or it could be the pipe end seal.. not look as its wet now!

Are you sure Dean - the wheels should give a clue as well as the lever between the seats?

and the badge , but from a distance they are the same car, especialy since paul was under the bonnet of a different one every time i looked over.....................i had an early start!!!

I'm pleased Paul has said he will be back in the 24v next year as I didn't go for rides in anyones car this year and that would be a treat...

I really enjoyed having a drive of her too. What a car! She beats a PR V6 (ES9) into a cocked hat

I reckon I now know why that pipe has a propensity to throw in the towel and it was a discovery I made on that BX at the CXM that had failed in the same way. After I refitted the pipe after repairing it, I felt it to make sure it was dry and every time the regulator cut in I could feel a real sharp pulse in the pipe, almost like a heartbeat you feel if you are checking your own pulse rate on your wrist.

This pulse has to have a fatiguing effect after twenty or so years. It also explains why a flat accumulator and the concomitant fast tick rate can fracture this pipe although on the BX in question the tick rate was very slow.

I'll be interested to know if you can apply the same repair technique to yours as I applied to the BX and if it proves successful.
