CCC East Midlands Group Meet - Stondon Museum - 25th March.

Post by Duke » Thu Mar 15, 2012 5:55 pm

Sorry for the blatant copy'n'pasting from another forum...
I wrote:I thought that I would put this up nice and early for you guys as this is our group's first outing of the year. :D

As the title says, we plan to visit Stondon Motor Museum on the 25th of March and this is at Henlow, Bedfordshire, SG16 6JN.

This is an excellent museum with in excess of 400 vehicles on display including some Citroëns such as CXs, SMs, DS Decap, 2CV and also a relative of the Peugeot 104. This isn't the usual run of the mill museum because all of the cars aren't in pristine/museum piece condition. Bring your chequebook too, as a fair few cars are normally for sale...

You can either meet us there or there are plans in place where people are going to meet up (for example at Huntingdon Services) and convoy down to Stondon – this will be organised nearer the time. You can see more info about the museum on their website - http://www.motor-museum.co.uk

Further details such as times and the convoys will be announced nearer the time...

Who's up for it then?
I wrote:Hi all, as promised here are some further details for the Stondon Visit if you plan on coming along next weekend.

The planned meet time at Stondon Motor Museum (Lower Stondon, Henlow, Bedfordshire, SG16 6JN) is 11am.

As mentioned before there is a convoy to Stondon being planned if you're coming from this way, and this is from Huntingdon Brampton Hut Services (Brampton Hut, Great North Road, Cambridgeshire, Huntingdon PE18 4NQ) adjacent to McDonalds Car Park at 10am for 10.15am departure. See here for a Google Maps overview of the area.

Takes about 40 Minutes from Huntingdon to Stondon so time ties in well, and anyone wanting to partake in a McDonalds Breakfast they can!!!

Anyone else up for it? :)

Bump - tomorrow if anyone's interested...

Sounds like it could be a good XM turnout - I know of four that are going...

Well a really good day was had, and once the fog lifted the weather was glorious. 8-) Good to see everyone again after the winter break and it was a good turnout of Citroens and a healthy 8 cars on our convoy from Huntingdon too. Funnily enough the Morgan Owners Club and Triumph Owners Club also had a day out to the museum, so the car park was rather full...

I believe that everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day and loved the museum (it really is excellent!). After two or three hours leisurely wandering around the museum (it's big) some people drifted off to the local pubs while others stayed for a good chat - there was a large percentage of Visa-owners at the end... :o

There was a good range of cars including BX, XM, Xantia, GSA, DS and C5. The most common was the XMs, again...

Below are some photos - I didn't take many of the museum itself as I've been before - but it was a good Citroen Turnout as you can see...

So the next meeting of the East Midlands Group is actually the X Rally - this certainly promised to be a very good event. Only 3 weeks time...

A nice turn out there, all good looking cars. That GSA looks very nice indeed with the later Bronze tinted glass. Is it an X1, or just has the wheels, it looks more like a Palas.
The black Ds just looks fab...it's Gangsta...

Keeping seeing silver Xm S2 cars makes me wonder why I passed up on the Exclusive I was offered originally...

That GSA is a Pallas C-Matic, and yes, did look very nice... 8-)

Should do too, after a £120K+ resto' to brand new condition - http://www.citroenet.org.uk/phototheque ... 74-ds.html - it even smells new...

Nice one Franklin with a good turn out of XMs and other great looking cars. I am looking forward to the X and now hope to bring the gold v6! With regards, Matthew T.

£120k does seem a lot for a Ds, even fully restored...

I learnt to drive in a GSA pallas, one of the very first ones sold in the UK. It was one with the GS style dashboard, which I much prefer.

I'm still set for the X rally. Might want to talk to you about CCC membership.
