Well i'm happy for it to be investigated as a case study. It also has ...I think a slightly dickie FDV or accumulator. (The nose won't stay up on high setting.) But i'm more interested in the by passed soft mode problem. Would be great to have it diagnosed...possibly fixed :o

Oh dear.. sounds like mine is a total pup...but it really isn't that bad!

What happened Captain...not your new one?

argh, well I was just changing the spark plugs for the last time on the xantia. Then a spark plug came out along with the thread of the engine. So I started the spare/hobby/in case of emergencies car being the CX turbo to make room for the xantia to go inside the garage. By doing so the turbo left a nice big trail of LHM. That's what happened, I ordered a new head gasket for the xantia and will give it ago changing the head soon which I had lying around anyway. CX will have to wait for a bit.
The spark plug had blown out years and years ago and ever since I always feared changing it as it didn't happily came out as the other 3.
To add to all those woes, a bottle of home made cider had burst leaving a mighty mess and another job that I had thought to do within the hour, took all day and still isn't finished.
For the rest all is good!

You can get spark plug helicoils to do the job without taking the head off.

Yes I investigated into the helicoil inserts. You need a special tool here I think, that prevents the aluminium falling into the engine but I can't find them here locally. Online I found one for 130 euros so I gather I go for the head change :( It'll be a nice learning project on this car. Can't be too bad but any tips always welcome! :)

Item one on my list for the inaugural BX and XM technical weekend is the N/S headlight adjuster. Not connected to the headlight in any way, shape or form. MOT tester let me fiddle with bulb to gain a pass though. I'm presuming you need to dismantle half the car to access it?
