Brodsworth Hall
I found myself at a loose end yesterday with everything sorted so I had a quick scan on t'interweb and found that the East Yorkshire Thoroughbred Club were having their annual meet at Brodsworth Hall, so I thought I would have a mooch down to see what was on offer.
What a superb setting for any kind of event. The cars were parked in and around the circular entrance driveway right in front of the main house. Plenty of tree cover to keep the wind, or the sun, at bay. The gardens, both formal and informal, are immaculate with space to escape for a quiet walk. And sitting on the lawn listening to a local brass band just made the day.
The array of cars was spread over some 70 years or so, some mollycoddled, some everyday, some trailered, most driven there.
Engine bay of a very tidy but cossetted Volvo
Immaculate Anglia just undergone a £5k resto
Go on, what's this?
Gorgeous Wolseley - I really am getting back into these superb motors
Beautiful un-restored Saab with a Morris Oxford
The only Talbot AZ95 Limousine left
Engine bay of a 1963 Rover P4 . . .
. . . and the car itself
The only other Citroen there
Very appropriate

Many thanks for sharing those pictures Neil and what a great venue as you say and nice weather too! I am sure your car attracted some interest and the Saab 96 and Rover P4 are two cars my parents owned that I fondly recall! With regards, Matthew T.

Great show Neil, looks like you had a good day. That Volvo is amazing. Trailered there maybe?!!

Russ...
I was going to guess at it being a Nissan...
Looks a great day out Neil. Did the XM get any attention at all?

Correct, Nissan Pao. Apparently only c16000 made. It was in very good nick but I never saw the owner for a natter.
He says he drove the Volvo there. I didn't stay long enough to listen once I got fed up of hearing again and again how brilliant a job he had done on it.
The kind of attention the XM got left me feeling that the car is viewed as Marmite. Regular comments were along the lines of "Ooh one of them Citroens with the up and down suspension, you don't see many of them nowadays" and then they'd walk off "too complicated!" More than anything else the wheel trims and the interior trim got the most attention. One guy said "I don't want the car as I wouldn't have a bloody clue how to keep it on the road but I'll give you owt you want for the seats". This was after he'd sat in them for an age.
One lad, about 9 or 10, was stood looking at it from the side and said "Mister, your car's broke" "look at the wheels at the back, you can't drive it home like that!". His dad was stood about ten feet behind him with a sly smirk on his face. I said to the lad "Ah but these are special cars. They have a bit of magic no other car here has got". I started her up and watched his face as the suspension rose - it was a picture! . Then I did some citrobics; his bottom jaw was on the floor. "How do you do that?" he pleaded, "Magic, son, magic". He then had a sit in the car whilst his dad and me had a natter.

Nothing exciting there at all... except the xm.... I mean it too..
the opinions you got is something id except when one of our cars goes to one of those rallies.
look at all the simple things that were there.. nice as they were but simple. And no.. even the e type does absolutley nothing at all for me..
lovly place though I must agree.. the gardens looked stunning.

I think there might be a convert right there Neil. Whats the betting he talked about it to his Dad all the way home!Eddie nuff wrote:Correct, Nissan Pao. Apparently only c16000 made. It was in very good nick but I never saw the owner for a natter.

I love the fact that these cars can still surprise with something simple like that. Also highlights how many young kids dont know what a true hydraulic Citroen is. I think Goldie stood out and looked good. Far more interesting than the sea of
Jag E-Types and Morris Minors!
Interesting thing about the Pao, 2CV style flip up rear windows. It looks like a Japanese Renault 4 / 2CV. Interesting little thing.

My XM got interest at the local informal show last month, but I know what you mean, the more formal the show, the greater the snobbery and the more boring the cars.citroenxm wrote:Nothing exciting there at all... except the xm.... I mean it too..

Re: Brodsworth Hall
Excellent venue and an equally excellent looking day out. Perhaps we could have an informal XM Club/CCC day out/meeting/rally there sometime?
