Well, it had to have something to overcome the blandness and set it apart from the obviously superior XM

But yes Gabór, I think we really need it, like electric arm rests....

Did the Pug have those?

I should be happy with Hydractive, as its clearly better than an electric radio flap, but even so i find myself rather taken with the idea, ok it may end up like the retro fitted electric arm rest that i always use..............but thats not the point.

...or the retracting mirrors...or the integrated telephone...or the third brake light...

Seriously, though, did 605 get Cup Holders? A surprising XM omission.

Retracting mirrors, did the 605 have that in the initial model range?
In fact was there even a phase 2 like the XM?

John uncovered wiring diagrams that included a folding mirror function, presumably to be incorporated into the beautiful XM III that 'tragically' never came to fruition.

Of course the 605 also got the PRV 24v slightly ahead of the XM, presumably also to heighten the distinction between two otherwise similar spec cars.
There was indeed a facelift Ciaran in 1995, but as for the XM the original 'crispness' of the design was lost!

Never understood why Citroen didn't fit a third brake light in between the reversing lights. It would have been perfect place for it.

Got to say, I like the pointlessness of the electric radio flap.

Thanks for that Matthew, Having seen so few 605s I didn't know a second phase existed.
I see its updated to oversized 406 corporate nose and tail, instead of 405.

Not bad looking, but sadly for it there's just no comparison to the XM, although I do agree the series 2 XM styling certainly isn't to everyone's taste, Series 1 all the way!

I have a scanned copy of a Hungarian owners' manual that treats it as an existing feature:
Folding mirrors.jpg
Item C (marked as "according to trim level"). If you look into the centre console, a hole is actually there for the switch but covered in the upper trim panel.

That's really interesting Gábor, that's the first time I've seen it properly referred to in the owners manual, the Hungarian version must be a later revision than the UK ones.
It makes me wonder, with the manual specifically mentioning it, were there actually cars produced and sold in the wild with the folding feature. I've certainly never seen one.

Would be a really useful function with a car that wide!

Sometimes I think it wouldn't have actually been a bad thing if the ugly XM III had been brought to market, because at the very least we could be using them to harvest useful features such as these mirrors, for earlier cars.
