Thanks for all your messages...

Still hasn't really sunk in... My fear is that even if it does come back in one piece, that the damage they must have wreaked to get in and get it started will put in 'beyond economic repair'. I still can't fathom how they got past the key code thingy... Surely there should be no way to get it to start with out it?

On a side note - because I'd been transporting some bulky stuff I took out the parcel shelf and the secondary glazing screen - so assuming that it doesn't come back and that my next car (see below) doesn't need them, then I'll have them to rehome - let me know if anyone might need either or both!

I'm currently working on the assumption that It's not coming back - so now I have to think about what comes next.

I am in a total conundrum - probably another XM - but I have also always wanted a CX - but i don't drive that much, don't have a garage and i don't just want something to rust outside my house. I can't bring myself to get a C5 - Dull, Dull, Dull.

There is a xantia activa for sale - but i hate the xant dash, and am warey of the attendant costs and problems with activa.

I loved my old BX - but has anyone done that journey from XM - to BX. What do you miss?

I switch between XM and BX on a daily basis almost, and it depends what you want the car for. The BX is a superb all-rounder hack, but although I did 3000 miles around France last autumn in a TZD turbo, I would say the XM is streets ahead for regualr drives of any distance. The BX - (assuming you can find a good one) is a very, very addictive car though!

I'm sorry to hear about your car, didn't realise from you first post that it was actually your car. I can't understand why someone would go to that trouble for a car that most people wouldn't want to own. Personally I think they are the best car in the world, certainly better than a BX, although they are very nippy, or at least the TDs are but the XM has a much better build quality and are less tiring to drive on a long journey. The CX is also a very nice car, I had three and drove the last one for over 160,000 miles, they are better in some respects that the XM but not in others. Hope you find something soon.

Sounds very interesting - and would be amazing to buy a car that someone knows so intimately! was thinking about going earlier in the XM world (my two have both been series 2). Sadly I'm not anywhere near so proficient in the mechanics department - so would need something that my local specialist could handle... how 'standard' is the LPG conversion? And clearly it seems like the greasy bits will be in great nick, but how about the electrics. I'd just got mine to the stage where all the windows worked and i had in my glovebox the replacement indicator stalk that i was about to fit.

The real bugger of the whole thing is that while In reality i covet a low milage 2.1TD Auto Exclusive (LOL), mine was just

Do you have any more general pictures of the one you are selling?

RE the BX to XM conversation - I loved my BX, but it's so long ago I can't really remember what it was like - but i do remember it being rather more marvellously 'wafty' than the XMs ever have been.

Bad luck Oli.
as others have said, it's probably been lifted away by Gypo's.

If it was me, I'd get another XM. A Bx is ok for what it is, but isn't anywhere near as nice as an XM and a CX is also fine, but nowhere near as well built and they do rust.

Firstly, sorry to hear about the car - they could have come and nicked mine if they'd wanted to ...

Sorry to be mercenary here, but I'd be interested in the secondary screen and parcel shelf.

Hi OLix,
If you can get an okay from the insurance company that they will pay out on it (Within the next 2 day's) ?

Then THIS 2.5 TD Exclusive is available which is owned by a forum members (Wife), which would be a nice replacement IMHO.
Also that its currently reached £450 and the 'Reserved Not Met' marker has gone off this could be a good buy for someone.

:D

Glove box is all there and working, if it isn't it will... Electrics... including working remote PLIP locking.. all windows, sunroof does NOT work unfortunally...

No nasty ticking noises from the indicator stalk, all windows do work IIRC... no false alarms about blown bulbs...

The LPG installation, is a sequential injection type, with the tank in the spare wheel well, makes the well sit a bit lower then a spare wheel, but when the car is at ride normal, its clear enough of the ground...
