Hi Mike

I did have an estate briefly after my first or second XM - I very soon changed back though! Having said that, they do have the solid feel of the XM and a good ride for springs/torsion bars, they also have good space for a modern estate and are relativly easy to work on. If I couldn't run an XM they would be my second choice. I prefer the 405 to the 406, the latter is to heavy for the 1.9 diesel and is gutless, the 2.1 was available as an option on the 406 and that's the only one to have really, but I think there are more 405s about than 2.1 406s. I would think that we see at least one 405 every day down here, there are three about that I got for friends, the last one a 'P' reg had very comfortable seats and aircon, less than 100k in brilliant condition for very little money. The main disadvantage for me over the XM - apart from the ride, is that the seats are to short.

A 405 GTX TD Estate was my very first French car. It was fantastic until I was seduced over to the dark side of hydraulic suspension. A 2.1 in that body shell would have been interesting. If I could find a tidy GTX / executive saloon I'd be tempted.

Here's what happened to it -

Oh dear! I regard them in a similar light the XMs, I don't think any of them should be scrapped. ;)

I hope you had a sturdy towbar on that to ensure the other car came of worse  Looks like it may not have been the black (fiat?) cars fault though. One or 2 bumps during the impact?

I've just been to the north of Scotland and back, Wick and Thurso in fact, never saw a hydraulic cit north of Glasgow other than the very odd C5 not even a xantia. 1020 Mile round trip!
Had to buy a new battery for the BX in WIck, that took some doing so no wonder they don't have hydraulics anymore. :(

Hi Ken

There were three for sale in Wick a while back, on my frequent trips there I have never seen one though, did see one in Thurso once, there used to be a Citroen dealership along by the water, turn off at the traffic lights

Shall be up there again this time next month - when another silver 2.1 manual estate will probably appear on ebay!
