Not an XM but possibly the ultimate wedge!!

Post by MTXM » Thu Oct 13, 2016 9:00 am

I just spotted this monster in nearby Cromer languishing on a driveway behind a hedge and clearly not in use! A certain amount of fettling obviously required and not least under the bonnet I suspect. Now I wonder where they got the idea for the steering wheel! Regards, Matthew T.

Austin Ambassador. It has the open steering wheel not dissimilar to a XM.

There are a few super wedge designs I can think of, most were not production cars or were so in other countries in very limited numbers at astronomical prices and so would be very unlikely to be hiding behind a hedge in Cromer.

My guess as something distinctly wedge like, rare enough to be worth a mention but not so rare as to be highly unlikely would be the Lotus Esprit?

Thanks chaps and I would say Dean is closest with the Esprit, in this case also British except four doors. I think the car is fairly rare and I have only seen one at a large prestigious show! All will be revealed later this evening with or without the photos! Regards, Matthew T.

Aston Martin Lagonda Series 2 :D :D Four webers on a V8 - and if it has one of those steering wheels it has to be an early one. :D :D :D

Ah the Lagonda yes! there is a green one that does the shows over here, rare enough to be special but not so rare that you wouldnt find one in a hedge in Cromer.

Good call.

Well done chaps you are spot on there and in particular Neil for getting it first! I wonder how many of these beasts there are left? It was interesting to know it has a V8 and the single spoke steering wheel was on earlier models. This one is around 1982 and black with white leather interior - tasteful eh! With regards, Matthew T.
