In Amsterdam
A quick jaunt in Amsterdam and I’m amazed how frequently you stumble on XMs around the city (albeit late S2s mostly) Here’s two, one just around the corner from Vondelpark and a second spotted from a canal boat tour.

Re: In Amsterdam
Interesting rear spoilers on RR-RR-, incorporating a high-level brake light.

Re: In Amsterdam
Yes, the Dutch love Citroens. When the ID/DS series made its appearance and the French en masse took their Traction to the scrap yards, it was the Dutch who 'saved' the Traction, buying them and keeping them on the road, so the story goes
The silver grey XM pictured here looks like a Series 2, but the spoilers are peculiar for that model. The one on the hatch is a Series 1, I think. Chris already mentioned the one at the top with the brake light.

Re: In Amsterdam
I remember a few years ago when i bought my headlamp conversion from them Cituning sold a standard MK1 spoiler that incorporated a 3rd brake light, they also sold that roof spoiler with the brake light.
Unfortunately, they no longer sell anything for the XM.

Re: In Amsterdam
There are quite a lot of classic British cars over there too. We saw quite a few XMs and BXs in France they last time we went but that was sometime ago now, very few estates though.

Re: In Amsterdam
Those high mounted spoilers do add a sporty look. i wouldn't mind one.
Series 1 spoilers don't work on series 2 cars.

Re: In Amsterdam
Does that mean [here] it is just cosmetic?Series 1 spoilers don't work on series 2 cars.

I suspect they are all cosmetic, without testing I wouldn't know.Jan-hendrik wrote:Does that mean [here] it is just cosmetic?Series 1 spoilers don't work on series 2 cars.
My point was they cosmetically Series 1 spoilers don't work on Series 2 cars. The "shopping trolley" spoiler was a late 1980's design item and the rest of the cars styling has to suit. A series 2 car...especially with those awful wheel trims, doesn't have the look.

Technically, no it's not, but that's hidden detail.Assich wrote:Perhaps just your personal opinion then.is the Y3 body not s good as identical to the Y4?
Moreover the S2 has sn extrended front bumper, different grille, more rounded mirrors, painted scuttle trim removing the dropped window line appearance, painted rear bumper trim and of course a completely different 'Euro' dashboard.
All in, a number of diferences that mean a raised spoiler doesn't suit it, hence citroen restyled it with a flat lip spoiler. The shopping trolley spoiler was at a time when cars had very squared off and sharp lines, not for later softened versions.
I had one of these in white in 1989, before my first XM.
