Driving home from a local visit earlier today I had a tantalizing glimpse of this car, which I recall is included in my book 'Worst Cars Ever Sold'. What do others think about the Reliant SS1? With regards, Matthew T.

It does look a mournful lump. Not sure about the SS1, but I had a friend in Derbyshire who recalled the Scimitar GTE he once had which would behave itself in straight lines, but given a hump on a curve would throw open its doors as the chassis twisted.

I used an overdrive gearbox from one on a York diesel I fitted in a Granada estate - or is that to tenuous ;)

No experience of them, but I recall being disappointed by the styling when they came out, and haven't grown to love it since. If it was meant to ape the TVR 350i, it managed only to look like a child's toy replica. Think Little Tikes with an engine to match. However, from the comment above about a GTE, either that particular one had rotted in some important places, or the SS1 was a worthy attempt at improving on the handling of its predecessor...
