New V6 XM owner

Post by peterk330 » Sun Sep 08, 2019 1:11 pm

Hi I'm Peter, username pkimpton330 (part of my gmail address).
I bought my LH drive V6 XM just after Christmas 2018. It hadn't been driven for some time as far as I could make out. Soon after I started driving it it was leaving puddles of LHM and engine oil on the garage floor. Oil seals going everywhere on the distributor, and elsewhere and hydraulic seals leaking LHM. Chevronics have been extremely good at sorting the problems and making the car roadworthy and driveable without roadside dramas. It also has an incorrect sphere fitted on the front suspension. It now rides beautifully and the V6 is lovely and smooth with a lot of grunt. Thanks to Matthew who helped me with the water pump which was leaking.
The car was most of ts life in Spain, some of which as a taxi. The absence of road salt out there has left the under neath looking factory new.

I've just now got to sort out an intermittent speedo and occasional ABS failure - whiah appears and then clears down without faults. Both I suspect are electrical connector problems.

Hi Peter, and welcome to the forum.

So, an ex-Spanish taxi! How many km did it notch up? Whereabouts in Spain was it? Did it sit unused in Spain, or in UK? How did you manage to find it?
Real bonus for the underside and bodywork - time to get busy with the wax, if you haven't already. If you can do this "from new", it saves headaches later.

Glad you've got the leaks and problems sorted. Do post some photos - underside too :)

The speedo failure is likely to be either the sender unit on the gearbox going faulty, or the 3 pin connector on the back of the speedo unit has cracked solder joints.

The ABS fault is probably a wheel sensor connection issue, but could be the relay board on the ABS block has cracked solder joints.
what exactly does the ABS light do on start-up. It shoud illuminate but then flicker twice before staying out.
Have you tried reading the codes? If so, which ones are being recorded?
