The replacement 'Hydraulic Fluid Level Indicator' is still listed as available, pt.no. 96 062 474. There's not much to go wrong with it: it's a simple float-in-a-tube assembly, probably seized/dirtied.
On my car, with suspension at Normal height (engine running), correct fluid level is 11cm below the rim/top edge of the reservoir filler neck - if that helps.
