Back in The Fold

Post by ds21h » Tue Nov 11, 2014 8:01 pm

Hi, after a 2 year abscence I have finally bought another XM.

It is a LHD 1998 3.0 V6 Exclusive.

Half leather, heated front seats, cruise, climate etc.

Advertised on Leboncoin as spares or repairs it seemed too good to let it go for parts and after various calls to the seller a deal was done.

It is a 2 owner car, 225k kms from new and a large file with service history, every oil change, sphere change, tyre change etc and came with 4 New Michelin M+S tyres fitted to steel wheels.

There were a few faults that the seller described as major, that he felt he could not cope with and was effecting his enjoyment of the car. namely:

Timing belt due, drivers window not working, air bag light illuminated, rip in front seat, remote only working the key and one leak from a brake pipe, faded paint on the roof.

The car had passed it's CT(MOT) in April this year without any advisories.

The owner had used the same Citroen garage for the last 6 years of his ownership and after receiving a very large estimate for the repairs decided to try and sell it before scrapping it.

So after getting it collected last week it is now waiting for a bit of TLC, not that it needs much to get it back to it's former glory.

A few pics are here.

The drivers window is fixed, just a broken cable, air bag replaced and the leak repaired, so just the blip, seat repair and paint to get done at a later date.

Next week will be the timing belt (many thanks for the replies to the question I asked).

So thankfully another one saved, he had received offers of 150 euros as scrap, and hopefully many more kms to come.

I have never had one of the last V6 's, had an earlier RHD V6 and the last one was a 2.5 D Exclusive so it will be interesting to compare them. It is not probably going to be the everyday car, got the 2cv van for that but it will get used as much as possible.

Regards
Mark

Ah... another ES9 manual. Does yours have an alarm, deadlocking or heated seats? My french-market exclusive does not.

BTW, I would not worry about the mileage, I had a Xantia V6 (R252DVC) with the same engine until 200,000 miles, and the engine was still running perfectly and quietly with practically no emissions at MOT time (I believe it is still in service with another owner)

Ouch, what a nice car! Wish you many happy miles with it. Best color in my view as well! Would love to try that one!

Hi, yes to the heated front seats and alarm, don't know about the deadlocks as we tend not to lock things up here!!, but doors lock normally with the key, is there a second deadlock operation that should happen?

Also pleased it is a manual one, it means you have to drive it, rather than lazy drive a auto, but not complaining about auto boxes as the one in our Voyager is great for eating up the miles on the auto routes.

The mileage on the XM is not a issue, the service history shows oil changes every 10k kms, it sounds very nice, so once the timing belt is done I hope not to worry about it, it won't get used a great deal more of a pleasure thing than a work horse.

The colour is also a bit different to the usual silver etc, but I have seen 5 cars in the last day or so advertised in the the same colour.

Very happy with it so far, for the cost of less than three tanks of fuel including the spare tyres it was a chance not to be missed.

Was that yes it has an alarm or yes it doesn't??

If it has deadlocks, there will be 2 buttons on the remote plip, otherwise just one.

It may also have immobiliser unlock from the remote plip, I can't remember which year that was introduced.

Can't believe it could have been scheduled for scrap. All a matter of cost for the owner, I guess.
Looks great: same interior as ours, except for dash/doors, which are black.
A suitably cavernous garage-barn!

Hi re the spec of the car:

RP Number 7805
Exclusive Trim
First Registered 21/04/1998
Paint Code KPKCR

Heated front seats
No Alarm
No Deadlocks, single button on the blip.
Cruise Control
Radio controls on the steering wheel
6 X CD Changer under passenger seat.
Alcantara Trim, half leather half suede.

Don't know what else should be on an Exclusive trim, they all seem to differ slightly, the model 2000 2.5 TD I had a couple of years ago had no heated seats, did have deadlocks and alarm (twin blip), full leather etc but was a Belgian car from new, different spec for different markets perhaps.

Re the cost of the car, XM's are not commanding a lot of money at the moment here, you can pick up a parts car for 300-400 euros or a good runner if you are lucky, there is a lot of choice and some bargains to be had.

Mark

Well, I now double checked and finally found my own KPKCR colour codes. But, they are not where yours is and were well hidden. By myself :-~)
