The display is a stock failing with all Mk2 XM's.
Fixing is possible but a real pain and does not always work (instructions can be found on here).
If it really annoys unplug the connector for now so it stays blank.
Why'd you say that, John? Fixing the display was one of the easiest tasks I accomplished in tackling idiosyncratic problems of the XM

It's been problem free for 6 years now

I agree with John regarding the drop links being the noise.
The car came via a friend of mine and was in the Enfield area. Was it up for sale somewhere and if so how much for ?
It was on Car and classic for a rather dreamy £2400.
Which delicately raises the "what's it actually worth" question.
Bearing in mind that I bought it for what it is, it's usability to me and how it ran, not what it's worth, this is sort of interesting.

It's worth what someone will pay at any given time. Some XM are fetching that sort of money, but generally lower mileage and from traders, so fully prepped.
Good condition XM are now getting ever more scarce and the market is definitely moving up, so...

Kind of what I expected to hear which is plenty good enough for me.
Always the way with "undiscovered jewel" cars - affordable for those in the know until such times as the world wakes up.
Kind of a double edged sword really !

I'm a Series 1 kind of person, but genuinely think the Series 2, 3 litre Exclusive is the car the XM was designed to be.

I think the same about my other half - if only she had Jordan's bumper's she'd be perfect.
Still, beggars can't be choosers.....
