yes, I guess the trick is finding an XM that has been well cared for -re 'wallow' -I'm still amazed how my xm corners...really like its on rails ..and yet floats...I very rarely use the sport setting as I cant really magine it getting any better.

Hurl it about, and the Hydractive will adopt sport settings in the blink of an eye. I can't remember ever having chosen to drive in Sport mode, other than as a test. Be a bit dramatic with the throttle, brake or steering, and it all firms up as it should.
We have a few good-visibility snaky bends on a two-lane mountain main road near here. On one of them, it's good fun to take the curve at speed, and go round the double bend with the car virtually flat - and not a squeak from the bog-standard Michelin Energy Savers. A little treat a couple of times a year!

Re: Should i buy an XM?
I have used sports mode a handful of times, but only with a heavily loaded trailer or very heavily loaded car. Putting a lot of weight in the car causes the spring-rate of the spheres to increase, but does not affect the damping, so the suspension can start to wallow on an uneven road, selecting sports mode helps control that.
