Hi Dave,
I guess leather seats are something I do miss - after a decade sitting on cowhide, coming back to cloth upholstery takes some getting used to...
Cheers

Re: Hiya - a new guy here
A couple of questions regarding boot:
I've seen only a couple of XMs, and neither has a pair of strings which pull up the parcel shelf when the hatch is up.
Most hatchbacks I've come across have them - I wondered if it's just these XMs happen to be missing them but it doesn't look like the knows for the strings to hook on to either (well, there is one on side on the hatch but nothing on the parcel shelf side)
The access to the boot is quite poor without physically raising the aft half of the parcel shelf, so I'm very curious know what the deal is.
The second question is regarding the window inside the hatch, which is supposed to separate the cabin from the elements even when the hatch is up?
(You guessed it), Mine doesn't have it, was it an option? And is it a worthwhile feature?
Cheers.

Re: Hiya - a new guy here
Rear hinge on the parcel shelf was always for hand lifting only.
If you want the 13th window then plenty of spare ones are about.
Be aware that you need top hinges and a different trim for the rear of the headlining.
As far as I am aware these latter two items are very rare to obtain.
Low spec cars and all Estates were supplied without the 13th window.

Is it just me finding the access is less than ideal, especially when both hands are full?
And based on what you said about availability of the 13th window parts, is it worthwhile retrofitting it? Or just a gimmick?
Cheers.

Re: Hiya - a new guy here
I think I've just sold my last set of roof hinges and fixing nuts..
I think it's worth it if you have a car full and go in the boot a lot.. However.. As a downside they can steam up and of course its not heated.. Only the hatch back glass is heated..

Welcome. Is it Delage Red? You say the pics flatter the car, but I wish mine (that colour) was as shiny and free of lacquer peel... Yours looks nice
As regards the 13th window, having a car with it, the only value to it for me is in assuaging my OCD knowing that the car is complete (it was OE on mine). Unless you are in the habit of chauffeuring Jacques Chirac, or for that matter, a testy mother in law around, the 13th window is a bit of a faff. I would say retrofitting is not worth the effort.

The purpose of the 13th glass was to separate the interior from the outside when you opened the boot and keep everyone free from draughts.

I figured out the colour code but I forget what it is called. Plastic parts were heavily faded and the grey plastic trims look tired also - but luckily metal parts are still in good shape.
Yeah I know what you mean by OCD comment! Ok then I'll give it a miss - doesn't seem worth the trouble.Julianw wrote: ↑Tue Mar 05, 2019 9:26 pmAs regards the 13th window, having a car with it, the only value to it for me is in assuaging my OCD knowing that the car is complete (it was OE on mine). I might try to mod the parcel shelf to lift with the hatch though.
Cheers.
