I might try to mod the parcel shelf to lift with the hatch though.
That would be a most worthwhile mod imo!

Very splendid and worthwhile, indeed!

It will lift up with some added strings, but the holding springs underneath will need to be disabled, otherwise it won't lower again - unless you relay on the downward clout of the tailgate to do it!
The 13th window seems very much a matter of taste. The one here has had just one day's use in 21 years.

I didn't know there were springs - I'll have to take another look.

That's pretty disappointing - It does seem like a gimmick, really, I mean how many times do you open the hatch on a trip while everyone is still inside the car? And it must really blow with rain and gale to make a difference. Also could get quite annoying if folding down the rear seats on a regular basis.

My mistake - just one 'grip' spring, in the centre of the long hinge, under a small plastic cover.
Function is to keep the flap raised when lifted. Gets tired over time; just needs a bend to work again. Do not lubricate, or it slips.
Vaguely connected, a bit of boot lighting improvement from 2014:

I think my hinge spring is well knackered.
Very impressed with the brightness of the boot lighting! I have mine turned off though as I don't like bugs drawn into the interior.
PS - love the boot floor carpet!!!

Welcome. Is it Delage Red? ...
It's EJV - Mandarin Red.
I haven't seen other reds so can't really make comparison but do like mine.

Ta. More plummy than delage then, I'm guessing - delage looks a bit more 'brick red', especially under certain lights.

I've had a couple of red cars other than this - one was a maroon Ford Fairmont (refer my avatar) and the other, series 1 C5, rouge lucifer, both of them I was quite fond of...

Parcel shelf mod - proof of concept.
I think I'll need black string, obviously. The hinge is a bit crooked, not sure why.
