I think your spot on there Matthew. It's how I see it.

Yes! I'm inclined to agree with that line of reasoning...

.
DS = phonetic dey ess = Déesse (Goddess)
SM = phonetic ess emm, but stood for Projet 'S' Maserati
CX = phonetic see icks, the french coefficient de trainee 'Cx' (equiv. to drag coefficient 'Cd')
XM = phonetic icks emm = Eczem (from Greek: ēkzema, 'to boil over')

If anyone is near Chorleywood today (junction just off the M25 between the M40 and M1), I am showing the SM at the Chorleywood Classic Car Show - Chorleywood Cricket ground, in aid of Help for Heroes etc.
Weather forecast not great, but 10 - 4 (if it rains too much Muggins will not be hanging around)

Have a lovely day Charles and let's all hope it stays dry. I want it dry tomorrow as I'm off to Manchester to (lightly) assist with the breaking of a dead Xantia V6 in Manchester...
I've staked a claim on the gearbox and allied components as it'll make a good spare for two of my cars..

Yes, the XM was misreported as being the DX by more than one magazine.....and oddly enough when you were all posting the thoughts about the name XM and its origins earlier this week, I was simultaneously thinking similar things as I read about the SM....a deliberate hybrid of CX and XM, at least in name.

Well, just got back from picking up the XM from Jason, taking in the Harpenden classics on the common as well. I spent the ride home regretting the purchase - of all the Mercedes over the last 10 years! - the ride is just sublime.
The engine is nicely refined, auto box smooth, could do with a smidgen more torque, but more than adequate for the task.
Big smiles all round, now I have to sell a few of the fleet then I can think about a 24V.

I always thought that a great car for any one interested. Glad it found a good home, and yes it drives better than the mercs. I recall massive repair bills for the Mercs as well -not that I had to pay them

Don't forget to put some effort in rust prevention though!

Glad your happy with your new toy.

Enjoy, and definitely get under it and do what Jaap has suggested...rust proof it within an inch of its life!!!
