Hi Paul, that could be helpful, where are you based!

Thanks for the info Derek. I think the maintenance along with the regular use over the last couple of years has done the car a power of good, it drives really nicely 👍 It sounds a little gruff on cold start up which sounds like a small exhaust leak but it was recently checked and no problem was found. It quietens down once warmed through but I wonder it could be the exhaust manifold gasket or the manifold itself 🤔 I’ve read that these are a weak point. The Speedo needle flicks gently at low speed which I understand is likely to be the upper cable that runs behind the dashboard up to the Speedo itself. I’ll pop a spot of light oil down the cable to start with. Everything except the sunroof works (seized cable apparently) but that’s been sealed closed so that t doesn’t leak. That’s deffo a job for the summer!

Tct manifolds aren't weak. Infact the opposite to the non turbo manifolds in which rob has experienced.. I'd be more thought it would be the gasket which when I did a head gasket and turbo swap for another forum member I had quite a job sourcing a turbo which had in a scarse occasion had seized.. finding the manifold gasket was a bit of a job... I'm on anglesey north Wales. Robs due a visit to fetch a few things I think I've got an exhaust pipe that may suit his car. Again though I'm possibly looking at next year before I start at the farm storage again..

Wobbly speedo needle is a Series 1 feature.
Oiling the cable is unlikely to improve it and may make it worse.

To fix the sunroof is very likely to need the complete cassette removing from the roof.
If the drive cables are stripped it will be a challenge to find new ones.

Working sunroofs on XMs are a rare thing and the biggest mistake citroen did fitting them for uk market.. as the next issue that's common are leaks.. either the seal around the roof glass itself let's water in or drain tubes detecting or blocking and showers from the roof console where the front courtesy lamp is..

I wish the xm were sunroof less in the uk. An absolute useless thing in them.

Just a side issue - in this part of the world the sliding glass panel in the top of the car is referred to as a Moonroof. ideal for driving around on those dreamy cold season evenings. NO body would dream of opening the damn thing on a sunny day, waste of the AC apart from anything else........

They are simply a waste of space full stop.. I'd sooner the extra head room ..

Agreed re the sunroof, I'm not a fan of them. At least it's glass and with the sunshade pulled back it makes the interior feel even more light and airy (not that an XM needs it). As Saraphi says it's currently a moon roof :)
The sun/moon roof is currently well sealed with some kind of mastic against water ingress but I will probably take it apart to ensure the roof apperture and frame aren't just going to rust away from the inside!

Talking of moon roof's, one of my fantasy garage cars has a great one. The final generation (8th) Buick Roadmaster Station Wagon, last of the great American station wagons complete with fake wood panels :D Make mine a 1994-96 model when they slotted in the Corvette LT1 as the standard engine 8-)

You could probablly fit an XM Estate in the "trunk" of the Roadmaster Wagon

Googling sun-roof cables does bring up replacement cabling, iirc.
Agree: dreadful things.

Well, I am the odd man out here...I quite like my sunroof!..Fortunately it all works fine..doesn't leak, tilts & slides smoothly & quickly..Having said that, I use the tilt function more than anything...I like the extra ventilation it allows.

Only in summer does the blind come across & roof stays closed (Australia)
