Re: Hello Chaps....new owner
After a lot of "home" delays and a 90th birthday......the cylinder head is off the spare engine.

That head looks fine, but check for flatness before committing to fit it.
I would lap the valves in even if it doesn't require machining.
Keep that old head gasket with the block as it shows the thickness is three hole.
On Xud engines, the head gasket thickness is a result of piston protrusion, not the cylinder head, which is flat.

Re: Hello Chaps....new owner
Ordered:
New Cy'ldr bolts
3 & 4 notch HG's (4 notch was cheap so will cover me if a skim is needed)
Complete engine rebuild gasket set including new valve stem seals
Intake manifold joining "tubes/cuff's"
Washing/degreasing/jet wash flushing today

Re: Hello Chaps....new owner
Technically you don't need to fit a thicker gasket if skimming, as the head is flat. The gasket thickness is to allow for different piston protrusion, which doesn't change when skimming.Stickfinger wrote: ↑Sat Apr 17, 2021 11:15 amOrdered:

I can't see the compression ratio changing much unless the head is skimmed very deeply.
What thickness gasket is fitted to the original engine?
