I plan to rivet an alloy "patch" in that area

Have sometimes wondered whether you could use a section of oversize tyre as the scoop for the spare wheel.
Would certainly be rustproof, and silent!
Don't forget Eathan may be breaking one/more of the 2.5s in Peter's field. Estates, but spare holder might fit? Not sure.

Re: Hello Chaps....new owner
That thread seems to have gone silent recently....tbh the only desperate item I am after is the lower part front of the right side wheel arch liner.....without that I am NOT driving the car in fear of any debris having a "negative effect" on the engine ..... I really do not fancy going back over all the work I have done so the car is "Off the Road" for want of that part.White Exec wrote: ↑Sat Aug 21, 2021 12:10 pm

PS. I think a tyre would be to thick

Maybe an old one with little tread left. Should be a good choice at any tyre bay. You won't use very much of it.
EathanR is still breaking - he's just put an ad on BX-Club.

Re: Hello Chaps....new owner
Sent a PM, nothing back yet. Not sure what the BX chaps need bits from an XM for ?
Rear wheel arch liners inserted back in after arch waxing, mud flaps were a pain, mounts rusted/bolts sheared. Drilled them out, new bolts.
Took the car to Frome tonight, it ran well and I got it up to speed at last, very comfortable, all temps etc normal, brakes need bleeding I think as they are not very sharp, not at all like my Xantia.
That gearbox is stupid
.....but no drips/leaks on my return.

EathanR (in Telford) is breaking several cars. Did an XM 2.5 recently, now BX, and likely some more XMs to come.
An XM (and hydropneumatic Citroens in general) which hasn't had regular driving can feel a sluggish and imprecise thing, not least in the brakes (and electrics) department. They absolutely thrive on reasonably regular use, and the diesels being driven hard, rather than endless tootling. Try to use at least every couple of weeks.

Re: Hello Chaps....new owner
I find Xm with Abs brakes never feel as sharp as ones without and the auto gearbox exacerbates that feeling as the engine continues to drive the wheels.
The Hp-18 allied to a diesel engine supplies more torque to the wheels than a V6 petrol and Hp-20, so the "drive on" feeling is greater.
As you have found, the Hp-18 gearbox being governed by road speed, not engine speed, does feel strange and makes the engine a bit buzzy.
The advantage is it's always in the right gear after slowing for a bend, so no change down lag after power is requested.

Now hard wired my DashCam, I tapped into the switched lighting positive/earth using one of those little power-2-USB socket units.

I have Arch liners just need to remember where they are. I found a load of the arch them self liners but none of the side ones that cover lower pully on drivers side or gearbox end on passenger.. At the farm somewhere I hope.. And not gone with a load of plastic..
