What technique did you use for removal of the strips? Any heat involved?

Just pry them out with a thin, flat pry, or scraper.
Locate the clips and pry under those and there is no risk of breakage.
Start at the front to relieve the ends.

I use these....

I lift a LOWER edge from an "off center" position....once lifted I use another tool and "walk" these along until I get close to a clip, a firm "twist" of the tool "pops" the clip out.

Walking two tools along is better than sliding one along like a knife as it prevents scratching the thin edges of the bumper paint.

Checking some areas under flaked/split paint for cracks damage before everything goes to the body shop.

As can be seen there are a few little gouges to be filled

Back in Feb 4/5 deer caused me to swerve to avoid having them join me inside the car resulting in damage down the drivers side of my recently fixed XM. This being a lovely rust free (not many are !) example and with me having just spent ages rebuilding the engine I was gutted and very disappointed by it looking like I was about to loose all the time I had put into it.

Well not so, a big shout-out to Sterling Insurance and their claims management team from TCS Claims.

They have agreed to fix the car with no cost to myself and have OK'd me to use a fantastic classic car specialist in Bristol (Auto Classico) who normally work on very high market cars. The XM will have only the best treatment alongside classic Aston Martins , Classic Italians and super fast Jags.

....in the days of writing-off cars because of damaged bumpers or a dented door I am very pleased with their decision.

Happy Bunny !
