What sort of value is a manual box? Are the linkages etc readily available? They were rare for Mercedes, especially 6 cylinder cars.

Linkage rods will be rare .. and if there are any.. which id likely have.. the nylon ball pops would be worn and would benefit from refurb if its possible.

If it’s ok with you I’ll see how the car goes initially in terms of how sound it is, and then I’ll look seriously into the conversion..

Thank you for your help so far

The manual gearbox is a ME5T, which is fitted to all manual Xm apart from 2.0I atmo petrol, 2.1 Atmo diesel, 2.5Td, later 3.0i Es9j engine.
I would think finding a complete clutch cable will be more tricky than finding linkages.
The clutch cable has a bespoke bell crank assembly only fitted to Rhd, Xm, however installing hydraulic clutch pedal is possible and is the route I would take if doing this from scratch.
Pedal box from a 2.5td, bespoke slave cylinder to the clutch release arm.

Thank you Dieselman, are you the same Dieselman who used to be on the Mercedes Forum?

Well, she made it home from Camberley to Devon along a very busy A303 yesterday evening.

Boy, what a car, it never felt 32 years old, was fast and very very smooth, I was very impressed. There are lots of similarities with the Mercedes 124, quiet, relaxed, easy to drive and no rattles. Plus the little visor above the rear view mirror.

It wasn’t completely incident free so I’ll start another thread if I can’t find a solution to the isolated jearky throttle when it was in slow traffic.

...and the foot operated parking brake.
Big Mercs and Citroens share a common theme, they are designed to effortlessley make miles of tarmac dissapear under the bonnet without the occupants noticing.
Have you acquired a copy of the Practical Classics August 2019 executive car shootout, yet? Well worth a read.

Clean the trottle flap, check vacuum pipes to the MAP sensor, check the setting of the throttle potentiometer...<0.5v throttle closed, >4.5v WOT.
Look for worn out engine mounts.

Make a Blink Code Reader and read any codes: see linked thread.

Thank you!

Yes, I was surprised at the similarities, both super vehicles!

Yes, I have a copy coming, can’t wait.

I’ll have a look at the items you mention, thanks for your help.
