wire in a hydraulic pipe!!

Post by XM CRX » Sun Oct 31, 2010 9:26 pm

Hi All

im a new member and hope to drop in with questions (and hopefully some answers) from time to time

but heres my first question. im repiping my xm estate and when i removed a short 3.5mm pipe (the one that joins the two K shaped unions) i found a hardened steel wire inside the pipe it was not a tight fit but it would certainly restrict the flow.

anyone come across this? shall i fit it to the new pipe?

all suggestions welcome

Hi XM CRX

Pipes on the top of the back axle I suspect.
I found the same when I renewed some pipes recently.
I did not bother to put it back.
Meant to ask about it on here but forgot.

ive spoken to centerville in newcastle they say its to balance the pressures in the rear pipes but they alos said it wasnt important and they wouldnt bother replacing it

thats good enough for me so its not going back into mine either

No there was no difference.
I must admit that at the time I assumed it was an occasional feature of pipe making so not meant to be there.

It's probably a flow restrictor to make the car respond similarly front to rear when traversing undulations.
I would put it back in to keep the flow as designed.
