Difficult to define XM

Post by Tony-D » Sun Mar 06, 2011 2:06 pm

My car is a bit different; it was bought direct from Citroen, Paris via Citroen at Berkley Square, London. The reason was, I needed the car to have a French specification and that could not be provided via a UK Dealer. It was purchased in 1992, but seems to have a lot of facilities that don't match up to any similar model I have viewed. It has the FULL specification for extras including the Digital Climate Control, leather, sunroof, twin cooling fans, Manual 5 speed box, The XUD11 A TE engine, Alloy Wheels Color coordinated mirrors which are electric and the list goes on!

Most of the Citroen Dealer/Garages at the time couldn't identify the model as it came straight from Paris and admitted they hadn’t seen one like it! The consensus of opinion was that it was being assembled at the time and brought up to near the spec I asked for with a lot of additions I didn't ask for. This came about because my order was well overdue and Citroen admitted they had forgotten to process it!

The main concern is the dis-assembly of the Dash to allow bulb replacement, the main one for the gauges is no problem is those housing the Clock/Temp, warning lights etc.

Common lads, tell Tony how to take a series 1 dash to bits without breaking all the plastic clips.
So long ago that I had a series 1 that I cannot remember.

Is that what he wants to know, if so it's easy.

Remove the dials side shroud followed by the screw on the underside of the fascia, then the ones in through the top now visible. Remove the heater knobs and the screws behind and then it should be free to pull the fascia forwards to release the electrical connections.

Just thought no heater knobs...Hmm...climate control pack, not sure, not done high tech yet, I prefer knobs.

Climate control is easy to remove. Push the vents down, and pull the top of it the climate control unit forward. Nice and easy.

Hi Guys - Thanks for the words of wisdom, its that the dash layout didn't conform to that in my books. Had the Climate control panel out OK and the shroud over the speedo etc. but still can get into the cluster above the steering wheel - perhaps I'm thick! This houses the message panel, clock, warning lights etc.

Thanks again - Tony

That big surround is screwed onto the dash, there are some screws hidden behind the climate control piece, and others are under the dash. I can't remember if there are any others lurking about. But the whole thing should just pull forward allowing you to change the bulbs in the clock etc. Be careful though, it is quite flimsy plastic and I have seen a lot of them broken in my time.
