Hi,
As the tittle says may be buying an xm tonight, white on a p plate and a 2lt. That's as much as I know so far. Just wonder how easy are spares to get hold of? And do most mechanics work on them or is it one of Rhodes cars try like to steer clear of? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum: It sounds like P104 CMO!?
Have you read the other thread about it:
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=3694

Parts aren't too difficult to get although the autobox is always a
big gotcha if it goes wrong as some do. Most if not all jobs are DIY
although, like most things, it's easier when you know what you're
about and what to expect whilst doing them - it's easier to check
through posts here and ask as you make progress with your
learning curve!

Let us know how you get on and don't be afraid to
ask questions!!

Hi joe

Welcome to the forum.
Hydraulic problems on XM's are best sorted by a mechanic with good experience.

Yes. That's the one. Not a massively encouraging thread I must say.

Can someone tell me the age/mileage a cambelt should be swapped on the 2.0lt?
Cheers :)

Just read 72,000 miles or 10 years. Seems a little high. Maybe I'm wrong. Has been known.

Mileage is correct, the 10 years bit, I would reduce to a maximum of 7 years.

Hmmm. Rusty sills and cambelt 10 years old. Shame. Keep looking I guess.

How bad are the sills and where is the most rust?

I know the cambelt is getting on now, it was done when we had the car.

Still, finding a perfect XM for sale takes a bit of doing

Rust was around the jacking point on the nearside. Practically put my finger through it. Shame because it drove lovely. Sure a home mechanic would be the ideal buyer.
