That looks a very tidy Exclusive. Normally the suede seats show considerable wear, but they look very good.

It's a long way to go to look, but get some info and more pictures from the seller and a firm, better, price before going and if it's right, drive it home.

Well Amos, I very recently bought a 2.1 TD auto . The car looks very good and if you want one, I think it is worth a trip to see it. Much have been said about this diesel engine with an autobox. From my own experience now, this is a really nice cruiser. Obviously I like it or I wouldn't have bought one. It is not fast, some find it very slow but I think it is just fine when you do not expect a fast car. I find it quite economical as well for such a big car. I think it looks very decent, do ask for it's maintenance history. Head gaskets are supposedly week points on these engines and the auto box needs frequent oil changes. But all about that can be found on this forum!
Good luck!

thanks guys! will give im call tommorow and see whats what, also will try to get price for trading in my mint 406 coupe 2.2hdi(extremely fast with remap but also extremely uncomfortable) i bet it will be silly offer from trader but will see. Im really new to XM's although have been driven in it years ago and really loved it always wanted to own one, and i use to have 406 2.1TD and never had any problems with the engine igues it the same in XM? If i decide to to go to see it, what would be main things to check? is the suspension big worry? Cheers

have phoned trader today and asked few Q, well not few but many :) he wasnt very keen on answering them and felt that didnt know much about the car, another thing was that he told will be mot'ed once it sells, well how he can be sure that it passes in the first place if it fails dont think he will spend £ to fix it, that obvious that few still do 'blind' tests, specialy traders. Also on one pic of a dashboard looks like car is runing as rpm around 700 and alternators indicator is on, i have asked him that said it wasnt runing .... shame that is so far just to go to see it, dont want to travel and be disappointed or if its good will have to do it twice :? and he was firm on the asking price

This is so annoying when this happens....what a predicament. I very nice XM, or so it appears and the chap selling it is next to useless. I would suggest if you were serious, to take someone in the know along with you if possible that is!.., or if someone is close to it, to have a look and give an opinion. It could turn out to be a lovely car, but then these lovely cars can hide nasties. Offering to have the MOT done after you have bought the cars is ridiculous. It should be part of the sale. If this was insisted by the seller, I wouldn't take the risk, unless it has been inspected of course & would clearly pass. As you have said, he could suddenly 'find' all sorts of faults.

Wish you luck if you do see it. It does look a great example.

Hi Amos

Not that surprised at the level of response you got.
I think the seller is a long term trader with a history of selling a few top end XM's amongst others.
His XM sales photos are always taken at the same location.
I did speak to him some years ago about a couple of his XM's.
It was mainly high price that put me off the effort of a viewing trip.

I personally would not be concerned about the MOT issue if I though the car was right for me.
The few remaining specialist XM traders will break for spares or sell as trade cars any doubtful XM's they get in.
The cars history will be known or examined and condition checked.
It will most likely get a new, clean (no advisories) MOT the week of sale.
That is the contract offered in the advert.

I suggest you as on here if anyone local to you with an XM will spend a bit of time showing you their XM.
There have been a few I want an XM posts recently with good replies.
The original XM site (club-xm.com) may be worth joining as well.
Noz who runs that site is not far from you.

As John says, it's normal for a trader to MOT cars at point of sale, that way you get 12 months.

As far as him being firm on price, sometimes a potential purchaser being hot then a bit cold can elicit a price drop as hte vendors confidence goes down with the lost sale. ;)

As long as the MOT is part of the sale then that's great. If he has said MOT it after you have bought it and then surprises you with a list of things that are wrong then that's not fair. Mind you, would be the first time I've heard of this being done.

I think it is a very nice example.
