Welcome to the XM club. The more you drive the car the more thoughtful features and useful qualities there are to be found. My way of running my car is that for the last four years I've put some money aside each month for maintenance and repairs. It takes the anxiety out of payment. Even with money-no-object maintenance I still haven't depleted the reserve. Today I loaded the boot with luggage for two adults and two small kids and we drove home in comfort and style: there aren't many cars that are so nice and so practical that cost similar money. The truth is that even if running an XM is more costly than average, it's still super value for money. It's not an average car.

Thanks Casalingua, I finally got it running after all. Took a couple of quick snaps today over in the Member's cars section.

The front suspension is probably flat corner spheres and maybe a ruptured centre one.

The poor starting sounds like an air leak into the diesel pipes, probably at the filter, fuel heater or bulkhead connections.

Pah! That's nothing.... Xac and I did a Xantia 1.9TD head gasket out in the street a few years ago :D

In fact I'm a street mechanic too. All my work is done on a very short drive just off the street... Never known the luxury of working ion a car indoors...

Aye, yes! Luxury :)

Yes, I do remember outside your mum's Paul. Doing a ZX engine swap there was quite some achievement 8-)
