My XM 2.1 TD Exclusive, in blue

Post by Gallic oddity » Thu Mar 14, 2013 11:28 pm

Hello. New to the forum, new to Citroëns!

Just bought a 1996 Exclusive, autobox. Some of you know of the car.

Blind eBay auction. Jeepers :)
But I do have a recent history of Lancia Beta Saloon(x2), a Trevi, Maxi, Wolseley Landcrab, X1/9, Alfa 6, Alfa 33(x2), Rover P6B...

MOT 12 months, taxed, so popped it on the multi-car classic insurance policy; driving it about all this week

Image

DVLA says just 23 others left roadworthy

Hi, and welcome to the XM mad house! We were wondering who snapped up this bargin. Looks great. :D
Must bring it to a rally sometime.
I have a 2.1 Auto myself. But it is a mk 1.5 SED.

That is a really cool list of cars you have had. I have never owned any, but I do like a Lancia!
Beta dashboards are just crazy. quite fond of the Beta HPE, and would love a Gamma Coupe.

NEway...Enjoy your new toy.

Welcome and what a lovely way to begin Citroen ownership :D There's nothing like an XM ;)

The Exclusive is a lovely car. identical to mine but for the engine and 'box...

That's quite a lovely range of other cars too. Do you still have any of them as I'd love to know how the Maxi, Landcrab and P6 are when compared to the XM

No worries about buying blind from that particular vendor, they're good... My latest XM came from the same place... I recognise the house behind it as I'm sure many of us on here do...

Do enjoy and if you can, come and meet us all at the X Rally next month...

Welcome and congratulations. That's a great list of cars. I'm also fascinated by Lancia.
This might be of interest, a "period review" of the Trevi
http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/Community/ ... c-id=11470
which is my handiwork.
Have you read the Trevi page at Wikipedia? Most of the critical appraisal section is by me. As a driver what do you make of the journalists' view? Do you still have a Trevi?

23 left of that model? Wow. But in 1996 they probably only sold 200 XMs in the UK that year.

Thanks for the Trevi links casalingua, really enjoyed that but what did strike me is how badly the looks of the Trevi have stood the test of time. It really does look quite frumpy :(

It's predecessor on the other hand, the Beta, still looks good..

23 surviving is not that bad all things considered. Do you know the total number imported into the UK?

I totally agree Jim, the Trevi hasn't dated well. It's boxy and a bit old fashioned. But it is quirky. I just love the interior. That dashboard is nuts!

I'm also a bit of a fan of the oddball Kappa Coupe and actually the Kappa saloon. bland but quite neat and discreet.

Indeed, it's brilliant. Worthy of Citroen that one. Is that what they call the 'Swiss Cheese' dash?

I love it. cooler than a cool thing 8-)

Yes I believe so. It could have looked quite good in a BX or GS. Brilliant piece of design.

It was 884, from a total of 12,500 worldwide. A long way from the 1990 peak of 6,491 UK sales (96,169 ww) !

Only that the maxima of taxed cars was 131 in 1999. That's a pretty good survival rate. So an Exclusive 2.1 TD auto isn't quite as exclusive as I thought... :D

The Trevi and Beta Saloon are the same car up until the C-pillar. The Trevi is in fact a 'booted' restyle (rearstyle?) of the Beta saloon Series 3 - the first car to be fitted with that dashboard. The Beta saloon body dates from 1972. The very different Coupe and HPE came some years later
