Ahhh. excellent. Haynes book of lies doesn't mention that....mine is 500. Too low..no wonder it takes a while to rise.

I'm surprised it doesn't stall when you engage gear on the auto box.

I'll adjust it tomorrow (seems easy with the Bosch mechanical setup).
Remember to use the proper idle speed screw on the back of the pump, not adjust the cable arm stop.

Any lower and I bet it will.

Fortunately this is something Haynes is decently informative about! Thanks Will, I had already read up on it. With the rain being as bad as it is though today may be a write-off for car-related stuff.

My idle speed is way high! around 1100rpm where does the screw reside? Does anybody have a shot of it? New development of late - brakes have become less effective at initial application. Definitely need a harder press which is a tad worrying. I've got no loss of fluid or any change in reservoir level. Brakes are still binding think it's the rears but wheels stone cold after a journey (as are fronts). XM ownership sure is fun! Oh and now i've got no glow plug light on dash but still starts on the button (bulb i hope) and the rear wiper has decided to stop working - does anybody know the location of the fuse??
Happy days!

The glow plug warning light, likes to not make it presence known from time to time....Well it does on mine. The relay is on the from of the battery box. I cleaned my contacts up and really it didn't do anything. So I wouldn't worry too much .as long as it starts. Then of course it could be the bulb as you say.

Check the Doseur valve linkage under the front scuttle. If it is too far away from the rubber button, it makes the brakes a little scary! 9mm is the measurement from the valve bracket to the nut on the linkage.
Whilst your there you can check the valve itself for leaks.
