To aficionado's like you and me, but a Series 2 V6 Exclusive really is the most refined XM, they are creamy. The 195 Bhp helps a bit too... ;)

The V6 in my Series 2 is quite lovely, and I say that as someone who prefers straight sixes (SM excepted). Power delivery is creamy, with a nice little roar when pushed and very good torque. Add in decent fuel economy and it is an altogether lovely package. Shame about the absence of estates.

I think Citroen were trying to position the V6 Exclusive as a luxury car...forgetting that Mercedes sell a lot of 6 cylinder estates.

and BMW and Volvo etc. One might say the Mercedes estates are more premium than the saloons, the latter generally being used for the carriage trade, the former normally bought by private customers with real money (laughs uproariously at the distant memory of people with money buying new Mercs)

All in the past, but if you have the platform and the engine and everything else, why not...

Thank you for the welcome and the information. Just browsing at the moment. I do need a load lugger for sorting out a couple of gardening projects and towing a medium sized trailer. My 124 estate is ideal for this but does appear thirsty compared to a 2.1 manual XM and as Charles says, I am more inclined to have a slush box than the weird stick thing operated in conjunction with the left foot and an extra pedal.

Not an estate, but I'm nearly tempted myself.

Welcome John :D

I have a warning. Traditionally I was always a Xantia owner and never really considered an XM thinking they are just a big Xantia.

One drive showed they aren't and that one drive also hooked me. I now have one and wouldn't be without one now. I much prefer it to the Xantia for long trips... I took a long trip in the V6 Xantia earlier in the week and all the time wished I'd brought the XM instead..

The Xantia is not a bad car by any means but the XM is better...

So, all I'm saying is if you get to drive one you’ll be smitten and I warn you, there's no escape and no known cure... You will have to have one...

Shame it has to be a slush box as I have a 2.5 xm estate coming up for sale soon with a nice thick service history and will have a new abs sensor and aux belt and tensioner fitted as well for not a massive amount of money ;)

For the right sort of money a manual will over-ride personal laziness and preference. I'm told the 2.1 is a better buy from a maintenance point of view.

Yes the 2.1 is the easyer engine, the most ecomonical but in manual form a little harder to find!
