Newbie from Renfrewshire

Post by Brian Dolan » Thu May 01, 2014 1:31 pm

Hello and good day to all fellow vehicle enthusiasts
My name is brian and I am looking for some help and guidance regarding my late father in laws xm
She has been sitting garaged for the last 4 years since his passing but we have just forgotten about the car
The garage was recently broken into which has spurred us to part with the car as we don't have the time or money to put this glorious machine back on the road
I don't want you all to think this is just some selling tactic it isn't as far as the family is concerned they would just scrap the car but I feel quite strongly against this I would rather see it going to someone who could put it back on the road if I had the money and somewhere to store her I would keep it but sadly I don't
Anyway the car is a 95 m reg xm exclusive 3.0 12v auto in black the only things I can see as it stands is that the strut tops have excessively corroded, the car starts first time and raises on the suspension no problem I pumped the tyres up and engaged gear and she moved no problem the only damage I can see is to the nose cone where the garage door was kicked in it has cracked but is repairable she has black leather and all electrics work as far as I know it is still in the garage but will need to be out fairly quickly I have been offered the scrap value but think she is worth more than scrapping
Thanks for your time and again please don't see this as a first post for sale add as I am just looking for some guidance cheers Brian.

Hi Brian

Welcome to the forum. I am sure your desirable XM model will generate much interest from members. Any chance of pictures and mileage details, service history etc.

Some pictures of the car
Mileage is 91942
No mot or tax as hasn't seen the road for 6 years
But put a battery in her and she fired up no problem
As far as I can see there was a full exhaust fitted and new hydraulic pipes
All the tyres have decent tread and lovely black electric leather car does have
Some issues but I feel it is to good to scrap but alas we have to be out the garage
In about a week.
I really don't want to scrap this car as it holds a lot of sentimental value to it and I
would rather see it going to someone or a group that could restore her to her former glory
Don't really know what she is worth or where to start so some advice would be greatly appreciated
Any questions or even advice please contact me on 07908650116 or brian.dolan@ hotmail.co.uk
Thank you all for your time cheers Brian.

Hi Brian,

A lovely example and sorry to hear about the circumstances with your father in law :(

Have you any idea what you want for it?

If I wasn't currently up the junction I would be extremely interested myself, but with such a desirable model, as Ken said, I'm sure there will be numerous members interested, a lovely car :)

That really does look to be a car with great potential. I regret parting my own 12v of the same age a couple of years ago and I wish I had the skills and the space to be able to undertake a recommissioning. Hope you find someone to take it on.
Regards

Rob

Hello all it pains me to say this but we need to be out the garage by the end of the week so if there is anybody out there that could be interested in saving this car then please get in touch and make me an offer otherwise it will have to be scrapped as we will no longer have anywhere to keep her I really hope somebody can take her on as it breaks my heart to scrap it as they are fast becoming a rare thing.
I know there is not a lot of time but if there is anybody interested then please get in touch I can be reached on 07908650116 or brian.dolan@hotmail.co.uk or leave a message on here and I will get back to you thanks for your time guys cheers Brian.

Hi Brian,

I'm going to copy this to the Sales & Wants section so it will get more exposure.
I really hope someone takes it on, I would love to myself but just not in a position at the moment sadly.

Copied thread here.

Will also post it to the XM mailing list.

I think you'll have to manually subscribe to the second thread if you want to be automatically notified about replies by Email.
