Try a new pair of 2032 batteries in the remote. They can be too far gone to transmit a signal to the car but still light the LED.

With the drivers door lock, carefully insert the key and wiggle it just a little, if you can feel a little resistance, gently turn it a little. If it slips and starts to spin, remove the key and reinsert before trying again, you may be able to coax the lock into working. Or you could try sqirting in some lubricant.

Point 1. Try pushing the key in further. Works on mine which exhibits all the other symptoms of point 1.

Oh, and those three little words that mean everything at Christmas - batteries not included. :P

Try the keys both ways round.
The four blades on the key are two separate pairs of cuts.

3) Cruise control
If fuses etc for the CC are all ok, take a look at the brake pedal switch (easily unbolts and unplugs from the pedal end). Inside is a simple changeover switch - Make when pressed activates brake lights etc., but Break when pressed trips out the CC. Dirt can get into this switch, interrupting the Break contacts. Easily opened up (spring off the cover) and cleaned.

You may have the correct wheels.
I quoted "Model Year" dates so 1995 MY runs from July 1994 to June 1995.
Date is build date not registration date.
Build date (ORGA number) is painted between the hinges on the passenger front door pillar.
There is a posting on here with photos of the XM wheel types.

Tried new batteries, no go.

That sounds like it's worth a look when I get a chance, just changed that switch on my C4 VTS because of various faults including (sometimes) cruise not working.

Great, still don't know which mine had. Is mine an early S2? (like the wobblies best still!)

I suppose I should stop this thread here and start a new one in Member cars section.
