Thank you all!

Having found an extra Owners Manual in the fuse box, discovered that I must drive with the emergency brake lever 1 up and put the CDs in correctly, I feel things are going well.
Next to sort is the snking after leaving for 1/2h and other things including a mystery button.

How old is your car? Older XM's didn't have 'anti sink' so it's normal they sink to the ground after a while :)

1995.

I tested if it went up and down after ignition off, which it did. A sign of the later anti-sink I believe according to this forum :)

Hello Dan

I am new to XMs as well & have already asked plenty of stupid questions without being ridiculed (that much!)

No, it is the other way around. An anti-sink car will not lower with the height control unless the engine is running.

It should be easy enough to count the pipes on the hydraulic pump, a sinking car has one inlet and one outlet, a non-sinking car has one inlet and 2 outlets.
