Hi there!

Post by Sesquialtera » Sun Apr 12, 2015 9:28 pm

Hello!

I've just bought a 2.5td Exclusive, having wanted an XM for many years. I'm 23 now but have been a big Citroen enthusiast since I was about 8 so it's great to finally have one of these fine cars. A few people have said 'good luck' and I'm aware that I may need it!

It's a 1998 example but oddly has covered only 55,000 miles. It seems to have been owned by a French businessman in London. This suggests that it's had a lot of urban use which hopefully hasn't taken its toll too heavily! It had had a bit of accident damage, repaired before sale. Thankfully the sale also included an MOT!

It drives nicely - my other car is a 1.1 C2 so the contrast in power on the motorway is very welcome! It could do with a few things doing cosmetically - the classic water ingress in the bumper strip means it''ll need replacing and the alloys could do with a refurb. For the time being, the jobs required are:

Waxoyl or equivalent (advice welcomed please!)
Door/bumper trim
Alloys refurbished
Drivers' doorstrap (doesn't currently have one)
LH display is almost pixel-less
Three window regs needs replacing

The interior, featuring leather and that alcantara suede type stuff, is in pretty good shape.

Looking forward to continued XM-ing and am very pleased to have found this forum!

Cheers
Matthew

Welcome to the forum. You seem to have found a stunning example of a dying breed, good ring considering its only done 55k. Good luck! :D

Looks really nice.

I have a S1 LH display that is going spare. Not sure if the S2 one is the same.

Cavity wax, yes, lots!! Even nice, low milage S2s rust.

Welcome! Looking rather nice, in the sunshine.
Ours has same interior, but 90k mileage.

If you do a search on our Forum, you'll find most of the jobs you list covered in detail.
They all look to be the usual jobs!

Do fill in the car's info on the User Control Panel > Profile, particularly the car's RP number (painted on the front LH door pillar) and your location. Helps a lot.

It's a car you'll enjoy no end.

Very very nice car indeed! You'll find indeed much info on the forum but don't let people make you too much worried when you need not! All is possible! Happy motoring!

As has been said there is plenty of info on here to do all those jobs. The only piece of advice I would give you is that if you have the intention of keeping the car do the jobs once and do them properly. Eg have the tyres removed, get the wheels shot blasted, acid dipped and sprayed properly and the wheels will look like new.

Thank you all so much for your warm welcome, advice and encouragement! I certainly take the point about getting jobs done once and for all. I think the wheels will be the first job, and indeed the rustproofing. Presumably places that aren't Citroen specialists can be trusted to deal with wheels sensitively - I know the jacking points are rather sensitive?!

Hi, and welcome!

You should start a new topic in the members cars section of this site, to keep a record of the history of the car under your ownership.

The dot matrix display is not the same a s Mk1 unit, but is fixed fairly easily with a new elastomer strip (see ebay item 221740309559).

If you are thinking of a professional rustproofing job, I can reocmmend Rustbusters in south Lincolnshire, They are agents for Dinitrol products and they know what they are doing, but a complete treatment of an XM will cost about £500 plus any metal repairs they find necessary.

Welcome.. 2.5 td a brave choice for first model.. lot of entirely unique engine parts that no others use... and getting even harder to find..

Lh display i fixed recently by simply opening the unit up cleaning the ribbon contacts and used some wire to help press the contact between the ribbon and display better and it worked.

Ironically.. my mate has a silver M reg 2.1 td auto s2 in silver and his reg is also CGO ...
