Okay, but under the first picture in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=7332 Rob says "Radio currently in my car. The radio and cassette works fine but not with the steering wheel controls on my S1".

I would be sorely tempted but the above statement put me off! Unless someone can explain otherwise why that'd work in my car. Rob's car is a 1991 so likely to work in the same way to mine.

I understand that the S1 button work on different resistances. Had this changed by

Ahem, I read this forum, whats is wrong with my car??????!!!!!

Seriously though, I literally bunged the radio in after I stripped stuff out of Justin's car a few weeks back. It gave me some very welcome radio on my way home from Wales.

Happy to post the unit out to you James so you can try before you buy.

Two types.. and rob has one of each..

and series two cars had one.. a phillips unit and they use a different method of connection of standard iso plugs where s1 radios use a single large red plug.

Image
this radio fitted to models from 1992/3 up to series two 1994/5.. with or without cd changer in the boot. RDS radio too. Steering wheel controls 5 pin din circular plug

Image
This is early series one radio to 1992/3 models. No Rds and no cd changer option or fitment.. steering wheel control also a round 5 pin din plug...a rather basic radio I think for such what was supposed to be a luxury car...

Both above are clarion units.. series two are Phillips and use standard iso connections and a different steering wheel connection.

My car has a large red multi-pin connector for the power, speakers etc and a round, metal DIN connector that links to the steering wheel controls. These are both present on the radio unit. In addition there is a DIN socket on the side of the radio that allows the CD cable to be plugged in.

It is quite possible that my connectors are not 'properly' in.

I certainly bow to Paul's greater knowledge.

Mine (and James') cars should have the more basic grey unit.
