I failed to mention earlier that the key does not engage the locks on this car, only the remote unlocks the doors. I know about fully inserting the key. I stupidly closed the hood part way to see if a battery would fit under the hood. . . with the doors locked! I now know how to open the hood of a locked XM . . . much easier than the old DS's.

I tried a back door entry into the British Citroen portal some time ago because a US address was not accepted. I used an address of one of the hotels where I stayed in Cornwall for the required local address. I got far enough in so that the website said I would receive information back, but they never responded. I'm thinking that my web address is now black-listed because I can enter only "woolley.da", not my full address. I will be forced to try again with someone else's computer and E-mail address.

Further major expense items will have to wait until after the holidays, so my XM is now parked. I now have an exotic yard ornament until Spring and tax returns arrive! In the meantime the search goes on for the starting problem.
Dave if you try clearing all the cookies from your browser, and re-register with a generic address, like Outlook.com or Gmail, it should work. If you need a UK / Europaen address, I'm sure we can help you out :-)

Income tax money has arrived. Through the early Spring I attended to a number of minor issues, now back the engine ECU. I am in the market for a new or reconditioned engine ECU for this car [1990 XM V6 24v ]. I have followed and contacted a couple of E-Bay listed dealers but have not had success. In an earlier post, someone suggested that the best sources were in Germany. Could anyone make a suggestion?

Thanks in advance. There are several Citroen gatherings in the US this summer, I hope I won't miss them . . .

Here is his current LBC advert: https://www.leboncoin.fr/equipement_aut ... htm?ca=5_s" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

BTW, if you are still having trouble registering with service.citroen.com, they now only allow connections from IP addresses that resolve to the country selected in the language selection box, so if move country or your country is not listed, you can only connect via a VPN. It causes me some aggravation because I move between 3 countries, none of which match my registration details.

That green car with the tripple Morrette headlamps is the one I had the roof off. iirc, it was a v6-24.

After 12 European contacts, mostly in the UK, I have finally taken delivery of two mystical, magical, engine ECUs for my 1995 V6-24 XM. The numbers are correct. Steve Holms, at ATP Electronic Developments LTD, remembered a shipment, years ago from his affiliated in France that contained ECUs. He stated that there were more in the box . . . if anyone is looking. His contact information: Cannock Wood Industrial Estate, Cannock Wood Street, Cannock, Staffordshire WS 12 OPL, T +44 (0) 1543 427 900.

Now for the next step. Since I do not have any Citroen dealers in the US, especially XM dealers, would any of you be willing to take one of the ECUs to a local Citroen dealer for reprogramming? First choice is to operate without the immobilizer plugged in. Second choice is the 0000 code. Third choice is a random number.

If you might consider helping, we can communicate by e-mail. I am willing to pay all expenses for shipping, dealer cost, and for your time and trouble. My next trip to Europe will be in a year or two, so my access to a dealer is restricted. My E-mail address is: woolley.dave@gmail.com. I will not hold anyone responsible if the effort fails to start the car.

I have no idea why the car ran for 14 plus hours and then decided to progressively not start. I have pressure on the rail and spark at the plugs and engine rotation from the starter . . . The immobilizer no longer lights up red or green. It failed to light up just as the engine stopped starting.

The dashboard computer in my car "spoke" German when I took possession. I have no other history of where the car came from as the individual from whom I purchased the car was not quite truthful.

On another note, is Brixit working or is it just as crazy a Donald Trump? Maybe I should not ask . . .

Thanks for your considerations and your help.

May your Citroen run forever,
Dave Woolley

I would be surprised if a Citroen dealer could recode an ECU, but isn't this what ATP Electronics do for a living?

Dieselman is correct about Citroen dealers.
Workshop manual instructions advise ECU's to be returned to factory for repair.
Return ECU's must be reset to as new codes 0001 followed by 0000.
Failure to do this required the purchase of a new replacement ECU.
Dealer action on fitting a new ECU was simply to code read to check correct working.
Dealer was then to advise the car owner to set their own personal code.

The keypad on these early V6's contains a diode to protect the ECU from reversed battery supply.
Keypad unplugging would remove this protection.
The reason for the two code numbers listed above is because the ECU stores both numbers in different locations.
It checks both numbers to release the immobiliser.
An ECU without know numbers requires a specialist to reset.
Not something I have investigated for the V6 ECU's.

I am about to "risk" one of the ECUs I purchased from ATP for a plug-in trial. Should I first try it without the keypad plugged in? If so, after that test if the engine does not start, do I next try it with the key pad plugged in and 0001? or 0001 followed by 0000?

I am not concerned about a reversed battery supply. Good to know. I have the correct polarity.

Apparently, ATP was not interested in a reset because I asked them to take a unit to any local Citroen dealer for a reset, which they declined. I would have thought they would have made a suggestion if they were able to do a reset. Later, if necessary, I will contact ATP with that question of ATP resetting the code. [I did not know the unit would have to be returned to a factory to for repair. Which factory? Returning a unit to the "factory" may solve my problem by by-passing Citroen, the company.]

After half a year of waiting, this is getting exciting.

The units I purchased are apparently taken from used cars, not new.

Ooh, Err....used ECU's could be interesting...

If they haven't been de-immobilised, or had the codes reet, you are never going to get one to work.
