Nice TCT Turbo Petrol..

WOW, your a VERY brave man to be foreign to Citroen and buying an XM... The brake inbalace.. Is it on the PArking Brake or the Foot Brake. Parking brake works on the front and an inbalance can mean a damaged parking brake cable... Brakes are not unknown for needing a Bleed through too... XM brakes like ALL citroens before them have baised balance to the front two wheels and the rear brakes being load sensitive, the more rear load the more the rear work... So check the parking brake cables for broken sheiths.

The rear movment indicates dead rear spheres. They are obtainable from AEP Citroen Services, Glasgow, changing them will need a DAAM GOOD Strong chain wrench or a proper Pliedies removal too, the procedure needed will NEED the car on a pair of ramps and car on TOP SETTING, then slacken the old units 3/4 of a TURN ONLY!! ONLY!!, then lower the car, release the system pressure on the regulator mounted on the gearbox, via the ONLY 12mm nut on it, and ONLY one turn... swap them over and start the car, tighten the regulator screw and let it pressure up.

Body looks tidy, and rare being a TCT Turbo with Manual gearbox too! One model that escaped the Puggerisers of the 90s..

You might not get a "Height Corrector" or leveling valve new now, good second hand ones though are available from hoarders like me.. and a couple of others. Fitting it needs a ramp for security reasons, theres three steal pipes and one rubber return hose - its held on by 2x 11mm nuts. There is no height adjustment procedure needed once swapped.

Oh and welcome to the world of Weird owner ship.. lol.. As for Blowers, remove the trim under the dash on the glove box side, and the blower motor is under there, theres a Red 4 pin plug with thick red and black wires going to the bottom of the blower, remove the plug and at a guess there should be signs of poor connection and high current draw, clean the contact up - if the blower its self is buggered they either blow MAX SPEED or nothing at all. So if its intermittent, id say wiring connections.

Windows, it could be propped up with a piece of wood inside the door, due to a broken cable, OR simply a dirty window switch in the drivers door!

The yearly Citroen Meets are due to start 21st of April with the first being Wetherby, North Yorkshire. I know its still some distance, but worth a trip down to meet some of us in the flesh and learn more tips and help...

I notice also, your height lever is in the wrong position, it needs to be on the next line back, the thicker line, unless you were just looking over of course... :-) ;-)

I wonder if the leaky front height corrector was really the leaking pipe.

As said the rear spheres need changing, which is an easy job. Rear wheels on ramps, raise the suspension, give the spheres a few good clouts with a lump hammer, attach strap wrench and crack the threads free, lower car to the bottom undo the 12mm pressure bleed screw on the pressure regulator 1/4 turn, switch engine off.

Undo spheres, replace not forgetting new O rings, start enginee, leave to idle for 30 secs, tighten bleed screw on regulator, raise car, drive off ramps.
You should bleed the rear brakes at this point as they are fed from the rear suspension.
The brakes feel hard because they are under full system pressure, which aides you when bleeding them, with the engine running just use a prop to press the brake pedal then open each bleed nipple in turn.

A hydraulic citroen is no different to any other car apart from the hydraulics, which are generally reliable and fairly cheap to fix if they do go wrong.

As said, get spheres from AEP in glasgow. IFHS ones are good quality.

Your car is a sinker, so it's correct for it to sink overnight.

All secondhand cars have some faults, its why the owners are selling them.

The most important bit is to fix the MOT items then do the other bits as you go along. Keep coming back here to update us and when you need advice. If you persist, that car has got potential to reward you. Rust is what kills XM, not mechanical items Go underneath it and clean and preserve it, especially under the rear and the sills.

Ahhh you havent physically got the car yet then... ok... Yes the height will still go up and down on the lever, the zero movment means the Sphere Gas has all gone and so no gas to compress and ride on... sinking overnight is not an issue, it should sink anyway on an M plate, thats normal, but will be more rapid because the spheres at the back are knackered so theres no sphere gas to take up return...

Series 2 connections are better then earlyer cars, so id be more inclined to go with switch or window winder... both known to give way on here...

To help with Dieselmans brake bleeding, YES they are a one man job..

They are done with the engine running, and car set on top setting... and easy to do... you remove the appropiate wheel, and then wedge the brake pedal on with a jack handle or length of wood and open the bleed nipple, but do use a hose into a bottle as these are high pressure and you should get a nice fountain of LHM from the bleed..

Go round each one .. front bleeds are hidden under the parking brake cable entry on the caliper. You will see once you get the front wheels off.

I always pull the park brake cable out to give more access and room for the bleed pipe.

I resort to that these days because of access...
